Antagonistic and plant growth promotion effects of Mucor moelleri, a potential biocontrol agent

Linda Korkor Nartey et al.

Summary: With the increasing demand for high quality and green food, Biological Control Agents (BCAs) play a critical role in green agriculture. In this study, Mucor moelleri was found to have high antagonistic activity against two plant pathogens and promote the growth of tomato. Microscopic and chemical analysis revealed that M. moelleri inhibited mycelium growth and produced beneficial compounds and enzymes. These results suggest that M. moelleri has potential as a biological control agent and plant growth-promoting agent.

Qingwen Fan et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the microbial communities in the byproduct of biomass thermochemical process and finds that the bacterial community plays a dominant role, while archaea and fungi have similar relative abundance. Furthermore, it reveals that substrates containing wood vinegar wastewater are conducive to the development of microbial diversity.

Detection of the microbial diversity and flavour components of northeastern Chinese soybean paste during storage

Hongzhi Ling et al.

Summary: A combination of 16S rDNA and GC-IMS was used to study the changes in the composition of microorganisms and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the storage of northeastern Chinese soybean paste. Firmicutes and Actinobacteriota dominated the microbial communities of the soybean paste at the phylum level, bacterial profiles of different samples were different at genus level. Fifty-one VOCs were identified from soybean paste, most of which existed in the early storage stage. Most esters and alcohols decreased with the extension of the storage time, while acids and pyrazines accumulated in the later period of storage.

Small changes in rhizosphere microbiome composition predict disease outcomes earlier than pathogen density variations

Yian Gu et al.

Summary: Even in homogeneous conditions, plants facing a soilborne pathogen tend to show a binary outcome with individuals either remaining fully healthy or developing severe to lethal disease symptoms. This binary outcome may result from an early divergence in the rhizosphere microbiome assembly that may further cascade into varying disease suppression abilities.

Within-host evolution of a gut pathobiont facilitates liver translocation

Yi Yang et al.

Summary: This study reveals that within-host evolution of gut commensal bacteria plays a critical role in bacterial translocation and initiation of inflammation. Gut microbiota strains can adapt and evolve, affecting their propensity to elicit inflammatory diseases. The changes in bacterial behavior are associated with genetic mutations, altered microbial gene expression programs, and remodelled cell wall structures.

Broader environmental adaptation of rare rather than abundant bacteria in reforestation succession soil

Zhibin He et al.

Summary: Revealing the responses of rare and abundant bacteria to environmental change is crucial for understanding microbial community assembly and ecosystem function. This study investigated the assembly processes and environmental adaptations of rare and abundant bacteria in different reforestation successions. The results showed that rare bacteria had wider environmental adaptability and stronger clustering, while abundant bacteria were more influenced by stochastic processes. The study highlights the key role of rare and abundant bacteria in reforestation ecological succession soils.

Dissimilarity analysis of microbial communities in the rhizosphere and tissues of diseased and healthy cherry trees (Cerasus pseudocerasus)

Li Ding et al.

Summary: This study found that fungal diversity in diseased tissue of cherry trees with black spot disease was significantly higher than in healthy tissue, indicating a potential relationship between an imbalance in fungal flora and the disease. The study also identified specific bacterial and fungal genera that may be associated with black spot disease, as well as potential antagonists of the pathogen(s). These findings provide a valuable insight for the biological control of the disease.

Combined analysis of microbial community and microbial metabolites based on untargeted metabolomics during pig manure composting

Lixiao Liu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the succession of microbial community and metabolite characteristics in compost using microbial sequencing and metabolomics techniques. It was found that the richness and diversity of bacterial community decreased in the thermophilic phase, with Pseudomonas and Flavobacterium increasing in abundance while Lactobacillus and Prevotella decreased. Fatty acyls, sterol lipids, glycerophospholipids, polyketides, and prenol lipids were common microbial metabolites in compost, with the linoleic acid metabolic pathway significantly enriched and potentially serving as the primary function of the microbial community in composting.

Bacterial community in saline farmland soil on the Tibetan plateau: responding to salinization while resisting extreme environments

Yi Qiang Li et al.

Summary: The study revealed significant changes in the structure and function of microbial communities in saline soil of the Tibetan Plateau, with higher abundance of chemoautotrophic and acidophilic bacteria. The potential degradation of organic carbon, production of NO and N2O via denitrification, and production of sulfate by sulfur oxidation were significantly higher in saline soil. The resistance of soil microbial communities to the saline environment is primarily based on potassium absorption mechanism.

The Damage Caused by Decline Disease in Bayberry Plants through Changes in Soil Properties, Rhizosphere Microbial Community Structure and Metabolites

Haiying Ren et al.

Summary: The decline disease in bayberry causes significant changes in soil properties, microbial community structure, and metabolites, leading to an increase in harmful microorganisms and a reduction in beneficial ones. The main variables affecting the microbial communities are pH, organic matter, magnesium, available phosphorus, nitrogen, and calcium, with a greater impact on bacterial communities. Additionally, there is a high correlation between changes in microbial community structure and secondary metabolites, indicating a complex interplay between soil health and plant disease.
