13C signatures of aerosol organic and elemental carbon from major combustion sources in China compared to worldwide estimates

Peng Yao et al.

Summary: This study presents 13C signatures of organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) for different sources in China and recommends composite 13C source signatures of EC for improved precision in dual-isotope source apportionment studies. The results show that EC is a better tracer for C4 plant burning emissions than total carbon (TC) and that the 13C signatures of OC vary with desorption temperature.

Secondary organic aerosol formation and source contributions over east China in summertime

Jie Li et al.

Summary: This study reveals that while AVOC dominates SOA formation on average over east China, the contributions of different SOA sources vary considerably in different regions of China. BVOC contributes equally to SOA formation as AVOC in regions with higher forest coverage and BVOC emissions and lower anthropogenic emissions, highlighting the significant role of BVOC in summer SOA formation in China.
