Alterations in hematological parameters and the structure of peripheral erythrocytes in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) exposed to profenofos

Md Al-Emran et al.

Summary: This study found that exposure to different sub-lethal concentrations of profenofos caused various blood biomarker changes in Nile tilapia. Glucose and white blood cell levels increased, while hemoglobin, red blood cell, and packed cell volume decreased. The exposure also led to abnormal erythrocytic morphology and cellular abnormalities in the fish.

Fabrication of iron nanoparticles from tea waste as an efficient adsorbent towards the removal of profenofos pesticide from aquatic environment

Arjunan Annavi et al.

Summary: Pesticide contamination is a significant threat to living organisms worldwide, and thus the removal of pesticides from aquatic environments has been a focus of environmental scientists and academicians. In this study, iron nanoparticles (INPs) derived from tea waste were found to efficiently adsorb profenofos (PF) from aqueous solutions. The synthesized INPs were characterized using various analytical techniques, and the optimal conditions for adsorption efficiency were determined. Kinetic and isotherm data analysis showed that the pseudo-second-order kinetic and Langmuir isotherm models were the best fit for the adsorption of PF using the prepared INPs. Overall, the findings of this study highlight the effectiveness of the fabricated INPs in removing pesticide molecules from aquatic environments.

Summary: In this study, a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) was synthesized and used as a sorbent for solid phase extraction of profenofos insecticide in seawater, rice, and fish samples. Spectrophotometry was employed for quantitation. The optimized method showed good analytical features, simplicity of operation, and no requirement for expensive solvents.

Resistance properties and adaptation mechanism of cadmium in an enriched strain, Cupriavidus nantongensis X1T

Liancheng Fang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the resistance and adaptation mechanism of Cupriavidus nantongensis X1(T) to cadmium (Cd) stress. Strain X1(T) showed resistance to 307 mg/L Cd2+ stress and could remove 70% of Cd2+ in 48 hours. Spectroscopic analyses suggested interactions between Cd2+ and extracellular polymeric substances. Whole-genome sequencing revealed that the Cd2+ resistance in strain X1(T) was due to the joint action of Czc and Cad systems. Differential gene expression was observed in strain X1(T) in response to 20 mg/L Cd2+. The oxidative stress system, Type-VI secretory protein system, Fe-S protein synthesis, and cysteine synthesis system were involved in the Cd2+ resistance and accumulation. Strain X1(T) could be an important resource strain in the bioremediation of Cd-contaminated sewage.

Studying the effects of profenofos, an endocrine disruptor, on organogenesis of zebrafish

Zakia Sultana et al.

Summary: Profenofos significantly affects the developmental stages of zebrafish embryos, lowering survival rates, increasing abnormalities, and impacting heartbeats in concentration-dependent manner. Developmental malformations observed include abnormalities in multiple organs, with some deformities attributed to higher concentrations of Profenofos.

Biodegradation of profenofos, an acetylcholine esterase inhibitor by a psychrotolerant strain Rahnella sp. PFF2 and degradation pathway analysis

Shalini Verma et al.

Summary: The study investigated microbial degradation of Profenofos (PFF) using a psychrotolerant bacterium Rahnella sp. PFF2, isolated from soil samples in India. Results showed that the bacterium could effectively degrade PFF at different temperatures, with GC/MS and HPLC studies revealing degradation pathway and metabolites, proposing a possible degradation mechanism. This is the first report of PFF degradation by a psychrotolerant Rahnella sp. at both psychrophilic and mesophilic temperature conditions in the Western Himalayan regions.

Enantioselective degradation of the organophosphorus insecticide isocarbophos in Cupriavidus nantongensis X1T: Characteristics, enantioselective regulation, degradation pathways, and toxicity assessment

Liancheng Fang et al.

Summary: The study found that the strain Cupriavidus nantongensis X1(T) has enantioselective degradation characteristics towards the chiral organophosphorus insecticide isocarbophos, preferentially degrading the R isomer over the S isomer. S isomer only starts to degrade when the concentration ratio relative to R is greater than 62, and divalent metal cations can enhance the degradation ability of the strain.
