Ni-phyllosilicate nanotubes coated by CeO2 for ultra-efficiency of 36.9% and near-limit CO2 conversion in solar-driven conversion of CO2-to-fuel

Summary: In this study, a novel strategy of direct photothermocatalytic CO2 reduction is proposed, achieving high-yield synthesis gas through a unique nanocomposite of ceria-coated Ni-phyllosilicate nanotubes (Ni-psnts@CeO2). The strategy demonstrated record-high solar-to-fuel efficiency (36.9%) and high production rates of H2 and CO (120.90 and 136.84 mmol gcat min-1) with a high CO2 conversion rate (90.4%) close to the thermodynamic limit. Additionally, the nanocomposite exhibited excellent long-term durability with a low carbon deposition rate (1.3 x 10-4 gc gcat h-1) under UV-vis-IR irradiation for 100 hours, indicating its potential for solar-driven CO2-to-fuel conversion.

A theoretical study on the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol catalyzed by ruthenium pincer complexes

Summary: In this study, a density functional theory (DFT) was used to thoroughly investigate the cascade reaction mechanism for the hydrogenation of carbon dioxide to methanol catalyzed by ruthenium pincer complex [RuH2(Me2PCH2SiMe2)(2)NH(CO)]. The calculated results show that the main H-2 activation strategy in this reaction is formate-assisted H-2 activation. The reaction has a low energy span and can occur under mild conditions. Additionally, the catalyst can efficiently perform transfer hydrogenation using isopropanol as the hydrogen source, and different ruthenium pincer complexes show similar catalytic activities for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol.

The unique Pd2O4 configuration of Pd dimers enables the direct dissociation of CO2 to CO and C-C coupling, while appropriately inhibiting further C2+ coupling, leading to selective ethanol formation. The strategy of constructing atom-precision active sites opens new avenues for developing highly selective catalysts for CO2/CO hydrogenation reactions.

Summary: In this study, a series of Cu/ZnO-CeO2 catalysts with different CeO2 content were prepared, and the Cu/ZnO-CeO2 catalyst with 30% CeO2 showed the best catalytic activity for the hydrogenation of CO2 to methanol at 280 degrees C in a 3 MPa CO2/H-2 (1/3) atmosphere, achieving a CO2 conversion rate of 15.6% and a methanol yield of 10.06%. The catalyst demonstrated good activation of H-2 and CO2 due to the dispersed CuO species and oxygen vacancies, and the presence of a large number of intermediate species on the catalyst surface greatly contributed to its catalytic performance.
