Mechanisms underlying protective effects of vitamin E against mycotoxin deoxynivalenol-induced oxidative stress and its related cytotoxicity in primary human brain endothelial cells

Pochuen Shieh et al.

Summary: The study revealed that deoxynivalenol induced cytotoxicity in human brain endothelial cells through activating mitochondrial apoptotic pathway by modulating antioxidant protein expressions. However, Vitamin E significantly attenuated the cytotoxic effects of deoxynivalenol in the cells, indicating its potential protective role against deoxynivalenol-induced oxidative damage.

A highly-sensitive and selective antibody-like sensor based on molecularly imprinted poly(L-arginine) on COOH-MWCNTs for electrochemical recognition and detection of deoxynivalenol

Weiqiang Li et al.

Summary: A new strategy for electrochemical recognition and detection of deoxynivalenol (DON) was proposed using a highly-sensitive and selective antibody-like sensor based on molecularly imprinted poly(L-arginine) (P-Arg-MIP) on carboxylic acid functionalized carbon nanotubes (COOH-MWCNTs). The sensor displayed high conductivity, effective surface area, antibody-like molecular recognition and affinity, and good response towards DON. This method provides a promising biomimetic sensing platform for the determination of mycotoxins in food and agro-products.
