Nitrate contamination in drinking water and adverse reproductive and birth outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Luling Lin et al.

Summary: Exposure to low levels of nitrate in drinking water may have adverse reproductive effects. Three cohort studies showed that nitrate in drinking water is associated with an increased risk of preterm birth, while case-control studies suggested a potential association with neural tube defects. The evidence for other reproductive outcomes was inconclusive. Regular review is warranted as new evidence becomes available.

Historic Underground Silver Mine Workings Detection Using 2D Electrical Resistivity Imaging (Durango, Mexico)

Hector R. Hinojosa et al.

Summary: This paper presents the findings of an underground silver mining operation in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico. The study used a 2D Electrical Resistivity Imaging survey coupled with reconnaissance to locate the abandoned mineshaft, map its subsurface extent, and explore the occurrence of silver mineralization zones. The results reveal the presence of mining infrastructure, backfilled mineshafts, and shallow vein-type and manto-type mineralization.

Lagoon, Anaerobic Digestion, and Composting of Animal Manure Treatments Impact on Tetracycline Resistance Genes

Getahun E. Agga et al.

Summary: Increased demand for animal protein leads to large quantities of animal waste, which poses a threat to environmental health without sustainable waste management practices. Lagoons and composting are widely used methods, but current practices do not address the reduction of antimicrobial resistance.

Remote Sensing, Geophysics, and Modeling to Support Precision Agriculture-Part 1: Soil Applications

Arya Pradipta et al.

Summary: Sustainable agriculture management requires detailed characterization of soil properties, which can be done efficiently and non-invasively using remote sensing and geophysical surveys. These methods can support soil modeling and the study of soil-water interactions.

Effects on nitrate leaching of the timing of cattle slurry application to leys

Sofia Delin et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of slurry application timing in early Autumn, late Autumn, and Spring on nitrate leaching in Swedish conditions. The results showed that nitrate leaching was higher after Autumn applications compared to Spring applications, but the difference varied depending on the experiment and vegetation type.

Combining geophysics and material science for environmental remediation: Real-time monitoring of Fe-biochar arsenic wastewater treatment

M. O. Siddiq et al.

Summary: The study utilized Fe modified biochar produced from date palm leaves to remove As from wastewater, with both 5% and 10% biochar-amended columns achieving over 98% removal. Real-time monitoring of the wastewater treatment process was conducted using spectral induced polarization (SIP), showing SIP parameters to be sensitive on As removal processes and offering higher temporal resolution than conventional geochemical monitoring.
