The Calcium Looping process for energy storage: Insights from in situ XRD analysis

Santiago Medina-Carrasco et al.

Summary: This study utilized in situ XRD analysis to investigate the multicycle calcination/carbonation process of limestone and dolomite, revealing new insights into the progressive loss of carbonation reactivity of CaO derived from calcination. The presence of MgO crystals in dolomite inhibits sintering and growth of CaO crystals, leading to higher reactivity compared to limestone. The growth of CaO crystallite size and decline in reactivity with increasing cycles highlights the incomplete carbonation process.

Decoding reactive structures in dilute alloy catalysts

Nicholas Marcella et al.

Summary: Rational catalyst design is crucial for energy-efficient and sustainable catalytic processes. This study combines X-ray absorption spectroscopy, activity studies, and kinetic modeling to understand the mechanism of catalytic reactions in dilute bimetallic catalysts. The results show that surface Pd ensembles containing a few Pd atoms are the active species, and the catalytic activity can be tuned by controlling the ensemble size.

Protrusion-Rich Cu@NiRu Core@shell Nanotubes for Efficient Alkaline Hydrogen Evolution Electrocatalysis

Xuan Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, protrusion-rich Cu@NiRu core@shell nanotubes were synthesized using a facile wet chemistry method and employed for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in an alkaline environment. The protrusion-like RuNi alloy shells with large surface area and abundant defects optimize the surface electronic structure through electron transfer and are effectively stabilized by the unique 1D hollow structure.

Tuning the dielectric response in a nanocomposite material through nanoparticle morphology

Archita N. S. Adluri et al.

Summary: Ceramic materials, such as metal oxides and silicates, are widely used in electronic insulators. By introducing metal cluster dopants and molecular-scale inclusions, new high-kappa solid-state dielectrics with tunable field-response properties can be manufactured. This study models the polarization of molecular-scale silver inclusions in a magnesium oxide matrix and investigates the effects of nanoparticle size, shape, and orientation on the dielectric response.

Preparation and characterization of CaCO3filler modified with double-site stearic acid for trademark fabric coated by polyamide

Chenglong Wang et al.

Summary: A novel trademark fabric coating filler was prepared by modifying CaCO(3) with double-site stearic acid, resulting in excellent printing effect and environmental friendliness. The modified CaCO(3) improved the activation degree and dispersion stability, leading to enhanced strain and stress of the polyamide coated film when 15 wt% double-site stearic acid was added. Additionally, the trademark fabric displayed improved ink absorption and decreased pH value compared to unmodified CaCO(3).

Kinetics and cyclability of limestone (CaCO3) in presence of steam during calcination in the CaL scheme for thermochemical energy storage

Juan Arcenegui-Troya et al.

Summary: The study found that adding steam in the CaCO3 calcination step can increase reaction rate, decrease activation energy, save energy, and alleviate deactivation of the sorbent. Additionally, calcining in steam results in higher residual conversion compared to calcination without steam.
