Supramolecular Photonic Hydrogel for High-Sensitivity Alkaline Phosphatase Detection via Synergistic Driving Force

Dengfeng Lu et al.

Summary: Structurally-colored photonic hydrogels are promising biosensing materials that can be fabricated by introducing hydrogels into thin films or photonic crystal structures. However, the fabrication of high-performance photonic hydrogel biosensors is hindered by low anti-interference capability or complicated synthesis. In this study, a facilely prepared supramolecular photonic hydrogel biosensor is developed for high-sensitivity detection of alkaline phosphatase (ALP). The biosensor shows a sensitivity of 7.3 nm spectral shift per mU mL(-1) ALP and a detection limit of 0.52 mU mL(-1), enabling accurate colorimetric detection via a smartphone for point-of-care sensing and timely diagnosis.

Carbon encapsulated FeWO4-Ni3S2 nanosheets as a highly active catalyst for overall water splitting at large current density

Zhenglin Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a carbon-encapsulated FeWO4-Ni3S2 catalyst with a 3D spherical flower-like nanosheets structure, which exhibits high activity and stability for water splitting. The catalyst shows low overpotentials for both oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), and can operate stably for 100 hours at a high current density in industrial conditions. The good performance of the catalyst is attributed to its carbon-encapsulated structure, modified Ni3S2 to FeWO4, and unique 3D spherical flower-like nanosheets morphology.

Nano-scale minerals in-situ supporting CeO2 nanoparticles for off-on colorimetric detection of L-penicillamine and Cu2+ ion

Jiajia Lian et al.

Summary: Realizing the high value-added utilization of cheap minerals in environmental catalysis is of great practical significance. In this study, CeO2 nanoparticles were supported on four nano-scale minerals, namely halloysite nanotubes, palygorskite nanorods, montmorillonite, and hydrotalcite nanosheets, through a simple one-pot hydrothermal method. Among these nanocomposites, CeO2/Pal exhibited the highest peroxidase-like activity, attributed to its larger surface area and more exposed active oxygen vacancy defects. A novel colorimetric strategy was developed for the detection of toxic L-penicillamine and Cu2+ ions with low limits of detection. Density functional theory calculations provided insight into the catalytic mechanism of CeO2/Pal. This study provides a feasible strategy for designing mineral-based nanozymes and enhances our understanding of their catalytic mechanism.

Cheng-Ye Xi et al.

Summary: In this study, a reusable surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) sensor was designed for detecting the activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) in the human body. The sensor was constructed by electrochemically self-assembling gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and zinc-based metal organic frameworks (Zn-MOFs) on anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane. The sensor exhibited strong anti-interference performance and a wide detection range, allowing for the direct detection of ALP activity in serum without any pretreatment.

Summary: A colorimetric detection strategy for alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was established using an Fe-doped carbon-based nanozyme, which showed exceptional peroxidase-mimicking activity. This strategy can accurately detect ALP activity in a range of 0.05-6.00 U.L-1 with a detection limit of 0.03 U.L-1, and a quantitative relationship between ALP activity and color characteristic values was developed using RGB values, enabling convenient determination of ALP activity without specific analytical equipment.
