Propagating wave in a fluid by coherent motion of 2D colloids

Koki Sano et al.

Summary: The study reports that a large number of colloidally dispersed nanosheets in aqueous media can be made to operate coherently to generate a propagating macroscopic wave, providing a general principle for designing macroscopically movable devices.

Acoustic nonreciprocity

Curtis Rasmussen et al.

Summary: Breaking acoustic reciprocity is crucial for creating robust one-way propagation and unlocking new functionalities for complex systems. Techniques such as nonlinearities, moving media, spatiotemporal modulation, and nonlinear bianisotropy are used to achieve large reciprocity breaking. The recent progress in nonreciprocal surface acoustic wave devices and topological acoustic systems points towards a continued flourishing of these areas in the future.

Programming nonreciprocity and reversibility in multistable mechanical metamaterials

Gabriele Librandi et al.

Summary: Nonreciprocity and reversibility can be independently programmed in a mechanical metamaterial comprising a 1D array of bistable arches, allowing for multiple signal transmissions. By connecting shallow arches with symmetric energy wells and alternating arches with symmetric and asymmetric energy landscapes, different transition waves can propagate in opposite directions. The effects of asymmetry on propagation of transition waves at both structural and element levels are examined in this study.
