Cognitive, creative, functional, and clinical symptom improvements in schizophrenia after an integrative cognitive remediation program: a randomized controlled trial

Agurne Sampedro et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the effectiveness of an integrative cognitive remediation program (REHACOP) in improving neurocognition, social cognition, and creativity in patients with schizophrenia. Mediational analysis suggests that improvements in various cognitive abilities partially explain the impact of cognitive remediation on functional outcomes.

A Meta-analysis of Cognitive Remediation for Schizophrenia: Efficacy and the Role of Participant and Treatment Factors

Julia A. Lejeune et al.

Summary: Randomized, controlled studies of cognitive remediation for schizophrenia have increased in number over the past 20 years, showing significant small-to-moderate improvements in cognition and function. The active elements of cognitive remediation treatment remain unknown, but programs utilizing discussion groups and strategy-coaching have shown more significant cognitive improvements. Future research should focus on enhancing the generalization of cognitive improvements to overall function.
