How does government regulation shape residents? green consumption behavior? A multi-agent simulation considering environmental values and social interaction

Menghua Yang et al.

Summary: Green consumption is a necessary choice for mitigating environmental pressure and promoting sustainable development. The decisions of residents' green consumption behavior are influenced by both external government regulations and internal consumer psychological factors. This study incorporated regret theory and environmental values into a multi-agent model to simulate residents' green consumption behavior under different government regulation scenarios. The results indicate that resident's motivation to choose green consumption is low without government regulation. Among the single policies, government subsidy is more effective in promoting green consumption behavior than government penalty, and an increased policy intensity leads to a more stable evolution of group decision making. However, neither of the two single regulatory policies can fully promote environmentally conscious consumption decisions. Therefore, a combination of carrots (government subsidy) and sticks (government penalty) is necessary to encourage a significant increase in the number of residents choosing green consumption behavior. Additionally, the intensity of social interaction among residents has an impact on the stability of behavioral evolution, with higher intensity leading to greater fluctuations in group behavior but driving more residents towards green consumption. These findings provide a theoretical reference for policy formulation regarding green consumption behavior.

Summary: This study empirically examines the behavior of individuals in supply chains and finds that decision makers order less aggressively and become insensitive to the scope of the problem when facing shortages. It suggests that this scope neglect phenomenon may be driven by affective reactions overwhelming cognitive processing.

Impact of charging and reward-penalty policies on household recycling: A case study in China

Shaoqing Zhang et al.

Summary: With the increasing amount of household waste in China, improving the recovery rate of household recyclable waste is crucial for a sustainable and green future. This study proposes an improved pay as a site throws policy and considers the implementation of reward and reward-penalty policies to increase its feasibility. The results demonstrate that these policies effectively promote waste classification and HRW recovery.

Consumers' environmental ethics, willingness, and green consumerism between lower and higher income groups

Rulia Akhtar et al.

Summary: The emergence of environmental obligations has led to an international concern for green products and sustainable consumption. Consumers play a crucial role in achieving sustainable development goals by choosing between ungreen and eco-friendly products. This study found that consumers' environmental ethics, moral obligation, and green attitude significantly influence their willingness to consume green products and actual green consumption, with willingness to consume green products mediating the relationship.

Novel information interaction rule for municipal household waste classification behavior based on an evolving scale-free network

Liqiang Chen et al.

Summary: The study explores individual willingness, group behavior evolution, and information propagation in social networks in municipal waste classification. Lowering the threshold of social interaction can improve waste classification information transmission and increase the proportion of residents carrying out waste sorting. Economic profits and spiritual satisfaction are important driving factors affecting waste classification decisions, with influencers with higher connectivity having a greater impact on resident decisions.
