Decoupling of SDGs followed by re-coupling as sustainable development progresses

Xutong Wu et al.

Summary: This study used a correlational network approach and a global SDG database to analyze the evolution of SDG interactions. The research found that as the level of sustainable development increases, the interactions among SDGs show nonlinear changes. At low and high levels of sustainable development, SDGs are both more positively and more negatively connected, while at middle levels, they cluster into more isolated positive connection groups.

A systematic method for assessing progress of achieving sustainable development goals: A case study of 15 countries

Yizhong Huan et al.

Summary: In 2015, 193 countries committed to achieving 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs). A lack of methods for quantitative assessment of regional progress in achieving SDGs prompted the development of the Composite SDG Index, which categorized the goals into four dimensions and introduced a Coupling Coordinated SDG subindex for the first time to measure coordination between dimensions. The framework, used to assess 15 countries along the Belt and Road, aims to enhance mutual understanding among global stakeholders and support coordinated planning and decision-making at the national level.
