Data mining of plug-in electric vehicles charging behavior using supply-side data

Choudhury Siddique et al.

Summary: This study examines the charging patterns of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) and identifies factors that significantly impact PEVs' charging behavior. The findings provide insights for policymakers to incentivize PEVs for grid services and invest in charging infrastructure to reduce range anxiety and promote PEV adoption.

Minimum environmental footprint charging of electric vehicles: A spatiotemporal scenario analysis

Yee Van Fan et al.

Summary: The electrification of mobility is an effective solution to reduce the environmental burden of the transportation sector. This study assesses the environmental performance of power generation and identifies the potential emission reduction by altering the charging behavior of electric vehicles. The results show that charging at specific times and locations can significantly lower greenhouse gas emissions, and changing charging behavior can lead to a lower greenhouse gas footprint.

Summary: This study investigates the impacts of different charging price strategies on charging behaviors and found that time-of-use pricing scheme leads to the highest emissions while real-time pricing scheme results in the lowest emissions. It also highlights the various factors that affect charging load configuration.

A systematic review on sustainability assessment of electric vehicles: Knowledge gaps and future perspectives

Nuri C. Onat et al.

Summary: Electric mobility is on the rise worldwide to reduce environmental impacts, decrease dependence on petroleum, and diversify energy sources for transportation. However, there are several knowledge gaps in the sustainability assessment of electric vehicles, such as the lack of socioeconomic assessment and integrated modeling approaches. Traditional life cycle assessment methods are not sufficient to analyze economic and social impacts and other related issues. To address these gaps, new approaches, such as life cycle sustainability assessment, are being developed. This research provides an overview of the current state of knowledge and identifies research gaps in the field of sustainability assessment of emerging technologies and electric vehicles.

A hybrid life cycle assessment of the large-scale application of electric vehicles

Siqin Xiong et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the CO2 emission reduction potential from large-scale vehicle electrification in China. Results show that while emission savings were not achieved in 2018, they could increase up to 49.64 million tons in 2030, with fuel economy identified as a crucial factor for emission mitigation.

Provincial Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Gasoline and Plug-in Electric Vehicles in China: Comparison from the Consumption-Based Electricity Perspective

Yu Gan et al.

Summary: The study found significant variations in well-to-wheels greenhouse gas emission intensities of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) compared to gasoline vehicles at the provincial level in China in 2017. In some northern provinces, due to coal-based electricity and cold weather, the emission intensities of BEVs and PHEVs were higher than gasoline vehicles. It is suggested that province-specific policies should be implemented for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in on-road transportation in China.

Temporal environmental and economic performance of electric vehicle and conventional vehicle: A comparative study on their US operations

Fan Yang et al.

Summary: This study uses a mathematical model to evaluate the economic and environmental benefits of EVs compared to ICEVs over a 10-year operation phase, finding that EV energy consumption increases over time, affecting the potential GHG emissions reduction and cost savings from replacing ICEVs. At the state level, some areas may experience negative environmental and economic impacts from adopting EVs during the operation phase after considering battery replacement.

Evaluating the CO2 emission reduction effect of China's battery electric vehicle promotion efforts

Da Liu et al.

Summary: This paper evaluated the CO2 emission reduction effects after the promotion of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by the Chinese government, using the Well-to-Wheel (WTW) approach. The results showed that the CO2 emission reductions of BEVs are mainly influenced by the number of BEVs and the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS).
