Association of single nucleotide polymorphisms in heat stress protein 70 (HSP70) and 90 (HSP90) with the susceptibility of Pakistani sheep breeds to hemoparasitic infections

Muhammad Sheraz et al.

Summary: The study investigated the genotype and allelic frequency of SNP at 222 G > A in HSP70 and at ex6-7390T22G in the HSP90 gene in 204 sheep from Punjab. The tetra-primer amplification refractory mutation system-polymerase chain reaction (T-ARMS-PCR) revealed significant genotype frequency variation in the HSP70 gene, while the allelic frequency remained unaffected. The study suggests the genotypic screening of sheep before selection as breeders to improve the profitability and sustainability of animal production systems in Pakistan.

Summary: The study reported the molecular detection and seasonal prevalence of T. annulata infection in different cattle breeds in Layyah District, Punjab, Pakistan. The overall prevalence of T. annulata was 21% with the highest occurrence in autumn. Crossbred cattle were the most susceptible to T. annulata, and T. annulata-positive cattle showed significant alterations in blood parameters.
