Do nuclear energy and renewable energy surge environmental quality in the United States? New insights from novel bootstrap Fourier Granger causality in quantiles approach

Mustafa Tevfik Kartal et al.

Summary: With the growing discussion on climate change mitigation, transitioning to clean energy is a critical challenge. This study evaluates the impact of nuclear and renewable energy consumption on ecological quality, measured by carbon dioxide emissions, ecological footprint, and load capacity factor, considering the role of financial development and economic growth. Using a novel approach, the empirical results show that nuclear energy, renewable energy, and financial development contribute to ecological improvement, while economic growth negatively affects ecological quality in higher quantiles. These findings emphasize the importance of government measures that support the transition to nuclear energy and ecological sustainability for better environmental quality.

Consumption-based carbon emissions, trade, and globalization: an empirical study of Bolivia

Dervis Kirikkaleli et al.

Summary: This empirical research addresses the gap in the literature regarding the consumption-based carbon emissions adjusted for international trade in the case of Bolivia. The study finds that Bolivia's consistent negative trade deficit may lead to an increase in consumption-based carbon emissions in the area. It also identifies significant emissions attributable to the consumption of commodities and services transferred to Bolivia. Additionally, the study reveals that imports and globalization have a favorable impact on consumption-based carbon emissions.

Abraham Ayobamiji Awosusi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of trade globalization, natural resources rents, economic growth, and financial development on carbon emissions in Uruguay. The results indicate that trade liberalization and economic expansion have long and short-term effects on CO2 emissions. The abundance of natural resources increases environmental deterioration in both the long and short run. However, financial development does not have an impact on environmental deterioration. The study suggests that trade policies need to be reassessed, and restrictions on the exportation of polluting-intensive commodities should be reinforced.

Environmental regulations, political risk and consumption-based carbon emissions: Evidence from OECD economies

Taimoor Hassan et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of environmental policy stringency, political risk, and their interaction on consumption-based carbon emissions (CBCE) in 24 advanced OECD economies from 1990 to 2020. The findings suggest that imports, gross domestic product, and stringency of environment policies stimulate CBCE in the short run. In the long run, a unit improvement in political risk and its interaction with environmental policy stringency lead to an increase in CBCE. The study concludes that the current environmental policies of OECD member states are not effectively limiting CBCE, and restructuring of these policies is necessary to achieve genuine emissions reduction goals.
