Dynamics of offshore wind turbine-seabed foundation under hydrodynamic and aerodynamic loads: A coupled numerical way

Kunpeng He et al.

Summary: This study investigates the dynamic characteristics and stability of a monopile offshore wind turbine (OWT) under typhoon weather using FssiCAS software as the computational platform. The results show that extreme wind and wave loads cause liquefaction of the seabed soil, weakening the horizontal bearing capacity of the seabed foundation and resulting in tilting of the tower cylinder beyond the specified limit. Wind loads contribute significantly to the lateral displacement and maximum bending moment of the OWT, indicating their significant impact on OWT stability. This study also demonstrates the applicability of FssiCAS software for evaluating OWT dynamics and stability under complex marine dynamic environments.

Analytical solution for horizontal vibration of end-bearing single pile in radially heterogeneous saturated soil

Chunyi Cui et al.

Summary: An analytical model for the horizontal vibration of a single pile embedded in radially heterogeneous saturated soil is established using Biot's dynamic equations and Novak's thin-layer theory. The frequency-domain response of the surrounding soil and the analytical solution for the horizontal impedance of pile head are derived. The accuracy of the obtained solution is validated through independent comparisons, and the effect of soil radial heterogeneity on the horizontal vibration of an end bearing pile is discussed through extensive parametric analysis.

A truncated, translated Weibull distribution for shallow water sea states

Erik Vanem et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a truncated, translated Weibull distribution for the long-term distribution of significant wave height in shallow waters and demonstrates that the model fits shallow water data quite well. The proposed model describes shallow-water wave data better than the commonly used 3-parameter Weibull distribution, which is often the preferred distribution for deep water locations.

Vertical vibration of a floating pile considering the incomplete bonding effect of the pile-soil interface

Chunyi Cui et al.

Summary: Based on the dynamic Winkler model and fictitious soil pile model, this paper establishes a more rigorous analytical model for investigating the vertical vibration problems of floating piles. Extensive parametric analyses show that the proposed model provides a wider range and more rigorous application for floating piles embedded in layered and limited thickness soils.

Seismic response of a novel hybrid foundation for offshore wind turbine by geotechnical centrifuge modeling

Xinyao Li et al.

Summary: A new hybrid foundation structure is proposed in this paper to improve the liquefaction resistance of offshore wind farms, with more significant improvements observed in saturated sand. Experimental results show that the hybrid foundation with larger bucket depth can densify the surrounding soil and mitigate liquefaction, resulting in significantly reduced lateral displacement and settlement of the foundation system.

Vertical dynamic interactions of poroelastic soils and embedded piles considering the effects of pile-soil radial deformations

Shiping Zhang et al.

Summary: The paper presents an analytical solution for the dynamic interaction analysis of a poroelastic soil layer and an embedded pile with consideration of radial deformations. The solution includes dynamic impedance in frequency domain and velocity response in time domain of the pile top, and is verified by comparing with finite element model results. Significant conclusions are drawn regarding the effects of pile-soil parameters on the dynamic characteristics of the system.

Wave effects on the anti-liquefaction of the seabed around composite bucket foundation of offshore wind turbines

Li-hua Wang et al.

Summary: Through establishing a CFD-CSD coupling model, this study investigates the liquefaction of seabed and anti-liquefaction effect, revealing that the seabed around the composite bucket foundation may liquefy under 50 year return waves, but the overlying stones provide an effective method for anti-liquefaction.

Summary: This study designs a 10 MW monopile offshore wind turbine with a new soil-structure interaction framework and evaluates its performance using a Bladed-style controller. Dynamics of a pipeline buried in loosely deposited seabed to nonlinear wave & current

Jianhong Ye et al.

Summary: The study investigated the dynamics characteristics of submarine pipelines under hydrodynamic loading using a numerical model, with a focus on the behavior of the surrounding seabed soil. Results showed that the pipeline floats up due to increased buoyancy, but liquefaction did not occur in the surrounding soil.
