Gender and socioeconomic disparities in global burden of chronic kidney disease due to glomerulonephritis: A global analysis

Jiang Bai et al.

Summary: This study investigated the gender and socioeconomic disparities in the global burden of chronic kidney disease (CKD) due to glomerulonephritis from 1990 to 2019. Data from the global burden of diseases (GBD) 2019 study were analyzed to determine the incidence, prevalence, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) of CKD. The results showed a significant increase in incident cases of CKD due to glomerulonephritis globally, with a higher burden in men compared to women. The burden of CKD was also found to be higher in developing and less developed economies. These findings highlight the importance of targeted policies to address these disparities.

Efficacy of extracorporeal plasma therapy for adult native kidney patients with Primary FSGS: a Systematic review

Jing Miao et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of extracorporeal plasma therapy (EPT) in adult native kidney patients with primary focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). The overall response rate of EPT was 56%, with a long-term benefit of 46%. PE showed a higher response rate compared to other therapies. Evaluation: 8/10.

Risk factors for recurrent IgA nephropathy after renal transplantation: A meta-analysis

Jiang Bai et al.

Summary: This study aimed to systematically review the risk factors associated with recurrent IgA nephropathy (IgAN) after renal transplantation. A total of 20 case-control studies were included in the meta-analysis, revealing several risk factors such as donor age, patient age at transplantation, time from diagnosis to end-stage renal disease, previous transplantation, living donor, related donor, tacrolimus use, basiliximab use, proteinuria, and serum IgA level. These findings have important implications for clinical decision making.

Therapeutic apheresis in kidney diseases: an updated review

Yi-Yuan Chen et al.

Summary: Therapeutic apheresis, including techniques such as plasma exchange, double-filtration plasmapheresis, immunoadsorption, and low-density lipoprotein apheresis, has become an important treatment option for kidney diseases. While plasma exchange remains the leading therapy, there is growing evidence supporting the potential benefits of double-filtration plasmapheresis and immunoadsorption. More research, particularly randomized controlled trials, is needed. Additionally, low-density lipoprotein apheresis is an important supplementary therapy for certain kidney diseases. This review aims to compare and determine the optimal therapeutic regimens for specific kidney diseases.

Proteinuria Reduction and Kidney Survival in Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis

Jonathan P. Troost et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between reductions in proteinuria after treatment and greater kidney survival in patients with FSGS. The results showed that changes in proteinuria were significantly related to eGFR slope, indicating the potential benefit of reducing proteinuria for preserving kidney function.

Summary: This study found that recurrence of Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) after kidney transplantation is relatively common, and timely diagnosis and treatment with plasmapheresis can induce remission in the majority of patients.

Update on Recurrent Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis in Kidney Transplantation

Jun Shoji et al.

Summary: Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) is a clinicopathological syndrome characterized by nephrotic-range proteinuria and high risk of progression to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Recurrence of FSGS after kidney transplantation is common and might be associated with circulating permeability factors like suPAR, CLCF-1, CD40 axis, and ApoA-Ib. Further studies are needed to identify essential biomarkers for the onset and progression of FSGS and recurrent FSGS.
