Estimation of stress-strength reliability using discrete phase type distribution

Joby K. Jose et al.

Summary: This paper estimates the stress-strength reliability of single and multi-component systems using discrete phase type distribution for stress and strength components. It also considers systems with strength following a mixture of discrete phase type distributions. Matrix based expressions are obtained for stress-strength reliability and the maximum likelihood estimate is obtained using EM algorithm. Numerical illustrations are provided using various special cases of discrete phase type distribution and different mixtures of discrete distributions.

Reliability analysis of dynamic fault trees with Priority-AND gates based on irrelevance coverage model

Siwei Zhou et al.

Summary: The study extends the application of the irrelevance coverage model (ICM) to dynamic systems, introducing a method based on dynamic fault trees (DFTs) with Priority-AND (PAND) gates. The analysis of component irrelevance in DFTs is conducted, defining minimal irrelevance triggers (MITs) and reduction rules using the temporal algebraic framework. The sum of disjoint products (SDP) method is utilized for quantitative analysis of system reliability. Case studies demonstrate the effectiveness of the method and show that ICM can improve reliability in dynamic systems compared to IFCM.

Reliability evaluation of a k-out-of-n(G)-subsystem based multi-state phased mission system with common bus performance sharing subjected to common cause failures

Chen Cheng et al.

Summary: A new reliability model for Multi-state Phased Mission Systems with redundant subsystems and performance sharing subject to Common Cause Failures (CCFs) is proposed in this study. The model utilizes Markov chain analysis and a Binary Indicator Universal Generating Function (BIUGF) method to evaluate system reliability. The effectiveness of the model is validated through applications to power supply systems.

A Fast and Accurate Reliability Approximation Method for Heterogeneous Cold Standby Sparing Systems

Chaonan Wang et al.

Summary: Cold standby sparing is a widely-used fault-tolerant technique where unpowered spare units are activated to replace malfunctioned on-line units. This paper proposes a fast and accurate reliability approximation method for heterogeneous 1-out-of-n cold standby systems with non-identical components, and verifies its accuracy and efficiency through comprehensive case studies. Results show that the proposed method can estimate the reliability of large-scale CSSs efficiently and accurately.

A flexible optimization algorithm for GO-FLOW methodology to deal with shared signals

Licheng Zheng et al.

Summary: An optimized GO-FLOW algorithm for time-dependent system reliability analysis is proposed in this paper, which is implemented based on recursive calculation of the complete set of minimum path sets. The algorithm is enhanced with a cut-off criterion for probabilistic models to achieve a trade-off between computational complexity and accuracy. Verification results from a reliability analysis case study on nuclear power plants show that the optimized GO-FLOW method can efficiently process shared signals and provide accurate solutions at high speed.
