AI-Based Radiation Dose Quantification for Estimation of Heart Disease Risk in Breast Cancer Survivors After Radiation Therapy

Sanne G. M. van Velzen et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate whether the planned dose for cardiac structures is associated with the risk of heart disease in breast cancer patients receiving radiation therapy, and whether this association is influenced by coronary artery calcification. The results showed that radiation exposure to cardiac structures is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, particularly in patients with breast cancer and coronary artery calcification.

Internal Mammary Node Irradiation in Patients With Node-Positive Early Breast Cancer: Fifteen-Year Results From the Danish Breast Cancer Group Internal Mammary Node Study

Lise B. J. Thorsen et al.

Summary: The Danish Breast Cancer Group's study showed that internal mammary node irradiation (IMNI) in node-positive early breast cancer patients led to improved overall survival (OS). Patients treated with IMNI had lower risk of distant recurrence and death from breast cancer, ultimately improving long-term survival.

Risk of coronary artery disease after adjuvant radiotherapy in 29,662 early breast cancer patients: A population-based Danish Breast Cancer Group study

Marie Louise Holm Milo et al.

Summary: This study found a higher risk of cardiac events in left-sided compared with right-sided breast cancer patients irradiated during a non-CT-based period. For patients irradiated during a CT-based period, no increased risk of cardiac events in left-sided vs right-sided patients was observed within the first 10 years after RT.

Dose constraints for whole breast radiation therapy based on the quality assessment of treatment plans in the randomised Danish breast cancer group (DBCG) HYPO trial

M. S. Thomsen et al.

Summary: This study assessed the quality of treatment plans in the Danish Breast Cancer Group (DBCG) HYPO trial and derived dose constraints for whole breast radiation therapy based on dosimetric parameters. Results showed high compliance with protocol dose constraints, with some deviations noted in coverage of CTVp_breast with the prescription dose at 95%. New constraints for dose to organs at risk and high-dose volumes in breast-only RT planning are suggested.
