Physical, structural, optical, and radiation screening studies on Dysprosium ions doped Niobium Bariumtelluroborate glasses

Summary: A new series of Niobium bariumtelluroborate glasses doped with Dy3+ ions were prepared with varying BaO concentrations. The amorphous nature of the glasses was confirmed by XRD investigation. FTIR spectra revealed diverse functional groups. The optical characteristics of the glasses were studied using UV-Vis spectral measurements. The structural and physical properties, as well as the shielding parameters, were estimated and discussed for the Dy3+ incorporated Niobium bariumtelluroborate glasses. The radiation shield capacity of the glasses was improved by increasing the BaCO3 concentration.

High density of tungsten gadolinium borate glasses for radiation shielding material: Effect of WO3 concentration

Summary: The aim of this work was to study the radiation shielding properties of different compositions of xWO(3):(70-x)Gd2O3:30B(2)O(3) (WGB) glasses. By comparing experimental results with theoretical predictions using the Compton scattering technique and simulation methods, the good performance of the detection system was confirmed. It was found that the density decreased and the MAC, Z(eff), and N-eff increased with increasing WO3 content, while they decreased with increasing energies. At a concentration of 40 mol%, the glass exhibited better shielding efficiency.

Additionally, a feasible container design for disposing of radioactive wastes was proposed using Monte Carlo simulation.

The influence of MgO on the radiation protection and mechanical properties of tellurite glasses
