Modelling the ionization state of Type Ia supernovae in the nebular phase

Luke J. Shingles et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of non-thermal ionization on supernova spectra and proposes a method to determine collisional excitation conditions independently from the ionization state. The research also suggests that a simple work function approximation provides closer agreement with observations, and changes to the treatment of non-thermal energy deposition can improve the consistency between theoretical models and observations.

Photoionized Herbig-Haro objects in the Orion Nebula through deep high-spectral resolution spectroscopy - III. HH 514

J. E. Mendez-Delgado et al.

Summary: In this study, the physical conditions and chemical composition of the photoionized Herbig-Haro object HH 514 emerging from the protoplanetary disc in the Orion Nebula were analyzed. It was found that the chemical composition of HH 514 is consistent with that of the Orion Nebula, with some elements showing higher abundances. The overabundance of sulphur observed in HH 514 poses a challenge and may be linked to dust destruction and planet formation processes in proplyds.

The Physics of the Coronal-line Region for Galaxies in Mapping Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory

James Negus et al.

Summary: The study investigates the nature and extent of the coronal-line region (CLR) in galaxies, finding that the CLR is more extended than previously thought and shows signs of shocks through electron temperatures. The production of coronal lines is believed to be primarily driven by ionizing photons emitted by the central continuum source, with energetic shocks as an additional ionization mechanism for the most extended CLR regions measured.

Near L-edge Single and Multiple Photoionization of Doubly Charged Iron Ions

Stefan Schippers et al.

Summary: Using the photon-ion merged-beams technique at a synchrotron light source, relative cross sections for single and up to five-fold photoionization of Fe2+ ions in the energy range of 690-920 eV were measured. Theoretical calculations showed good agreement with experimental data when energy shifts were applied and assumptions were made about the initial experimental population. Extensive calculations of Auger cascades from removing electrons from the 2p subshell of Fe2+ led to better agreement with the measured product-charge-state distributions.

The Diagnostic Potential of JWST in Characterizing Elusive AGNs

Shobita Satyapal et al.

Summary: It is now evident that a significant portion of accreting black holes are not detected due to obscuration or contamination from star formation in host galaxies. These elusive AGNs are important in the AGN population, often found in mergers and low-mass galaxies. The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) is demonstrated to be powerful in uncovering and characterizing these elusive AGNs, providing crucial insights into low-level accretion activity and selection strategies for future study.
