Carrier-selective contacts using metal compounds for crystalline silicon solar cells

Jesus Ibarra Michel et al.

Summary: The efficiency of solar cells depends on the effectiveness of carrier-selective contacts. Metal-compound based contacts have emerged as a potential solution to avoid negative effects, but challenges such as poor stability, incompatibility with transparent electrodes, and deposition limitations need to be overcome for industrial adoption.

Numerical investigation of silicon heterojunction solar cell with zinc selenide as electron-selective and nickel oxide as hole-selective contacts

Shalini Srivastava et al.

Summary: In this simulation study, a new silicon heterojunction solar cell (n-ZnSe/p-Si/p-NiOX) is proposed as a potential candidate for photovoltaic application. The study investigates the performance of the device by varying various physical parameters and compares it with other heterojunction solar cells. The results show that the n-ZnSe/p-Si interface has a significant impact on the device performance, and the presence of a hole-selective contact improves the open-circuit voltage and efficiency of the device considerably.

Stable Molybdenum Nitride Contact for Efficient Silicon Solar Cells

Yajuan Li et al.

Summary: In this study, low-temperature magnetron-sputtering-deposited molybdenum nitride (MoNx) films were developed as stable hole-selective passivating contacts for crystal silicon solar cells, featuring a deep work function of 5.62 eV and low resistivity. When integrated with a MoOx passivating layer, MoNx proved to be effective in improving the power conversion efficiency of solar cells above 17%. The stable performance of MoNx films was attributed to its metal electrodes diffusion barrier and insusceptible work function, surpassing MoOx films after 6 months of air exposure.
