Anti-inflammation and adhesion enhancement properties of the multifunctional LPxTG-motif surface protein derived from the Lactobacillus reuteri DSM 8533

Hai Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, the LPxTG-motif protein derived from L.reuteri was found to enhance the adhesion characteristics and intestinal survival rate of L.reuteri, as well as promote the signaling molecule production in Lactobacillus strains. Additionally, the LPxTG-motif protein exhibited anti-inflammatory activity by inhibiting the expressions of inflammatory cytokines TNF-alpha and IL-1 beta through MAPK signaling cascades. These findings provide insights into the multifunctional role of LPxTG-motif surface protein derived from L.reuteri in the gastrointestinal tract environment.

Amino Acid-Derived Quorum Sensing Molecule Alanine on the Gastrointestinal Tract Tolerance of the Lactobacillus Strains in the Cocultured Fermentation Model

Jianzhu Wen et al.

Summary: This study investigated the tolerance, adhesion ability, and biofilm formation of a Lactobacillus strain in a coculture system using various methods. The results showed that the coculture system promoted the release of signal molecules and protected the viability of Lactobacillus acidophilus in the gastrointestinal environment. Additionally, an amino acid-derived metabolite was found to enhance cell communication and increase the tolerance ability of L. acidophilus.

Structure identification of walnut peptides and evaluation of cellular antioxidant activity

Jinping Wang et al.

Summary: This study prepared walnut protein hydrolysate (WPH) by enzymatic hydrolysis and analyzed its peptide sequence. Forty eight bioactive peptides were identified and antioxidant activities were detected for WPH. Among them, QGRPWG showed the highest antioxidant activity and AYNIPVNIAR possessed the strongest protective effect against H2O2-induced oxidative stress. These findings contribute to the recognition of walnut peptides as nutraceuticals.

New perspectives in oral peptide delivery

Alessandra T. Zizzari et al.

Summary: Peptides, due to their structural diversity, are considered a unique source of innovative active ingredients, but face challenges in development due to their disadvantageous pharmacokinetic properties. Recent efforts have focused on improving the oral bioavailability of peptide drugs, with the latest findings expected to influence future approaches in developing more efficient and safer orally delivered peptides by pharmaceutical companies.

Adhesion Characteristics and Dual Transcriptomic and Proteomic Analysis of Lactobacillus reuteri SH23 upon Gastrointestinal Fluid Stress

Hai Xu et al.

Summary: The study revealed that the hydrophobicity and auto-aggregation of L. reuteri SH23 were significantly reduced under simulated gastrointestinal conditions, affecting gene expression related to cell envelope, metabolic processes, stress response, regulatory systems, and transporters. Additionally, proteomics analysis showed upregulation of proteins related to ABC transporters and LPxTG anchor domain proteins on the cell surface after exposure to gastrointestinal fluid. Recombinant Mub protein was also found to enhance the survival ability of L. reuteri SH23 in the GIT. Overall, mucus-binding proteins played a crucial role in the adhesion and tolerance of L. reuteri in the gastrointestinal tract.
