A novel circular RNA, circIgfbp2, links neural plasticity and anxiety through targeting mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress-induced synapse dysfunction after traumatic brain injury

Mengran Du et al.

Summary: This study investigated the expression of circRNAs and their relation with neurological dysfunction after TBI. The research found that circIgfbp2 was significantly increased in injured brain tissue and in TBI patients, and its levels were positively correlated with anxiety symptoms. Knockdown of circIgfbp2 relieved anxiety-like behaviors and sleep disturbances induced by TBI. Mechanistically, circIgfbp2 targeted miR-370-3p to regulate BACH1, and down-regulating BACH1 alleviated mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress-induced synapse dysfunction. Therefore, circIgfbp2 may be a novel therapeutic target for anxiety and sleep disorders after TBI.

Single-Cell RNA Sequencing Reveals Cellular and Transcriptional Changes Associated With Traumatic Brain Injury

Jin Xing et al.

Summary: This study reanalyzed a single-cell RNA sequencing dataset to identify key cellular and transcriptional changes associated with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The findings suggest that astrocytes and microglia play important roles in inflammation after TBI, and excitatory neurons may excessively transport and excrete glutamate in response to TBI. Additionally, a TBI-specific ependymal subpopulation was identified, and candesartan treatment was found to promote neuronal recovery post-TBI through neuroactive ligand-receptor interactions and reducing excitotoxicity.

N-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Ameliorate Neurobehavioral Outcomes Post-Mild Traumatic Brain Injury in the Fat-1 Mouse Model

Jessica-Dominique Lecques et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the protective effect of n-3 PUFA against mild brain injury, using a weight drop injury model on fat-1 mice and WT counterparts. The fat-1 mice showed significantly lower neurological severity scores and faster neurological restoration compared to WT mice post-injury.

Mild traumatic brain injury induces microvascular injury and accelerates Alzheimer-like pathogenesis in mice

Yingxi Wu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that microvascular injury plays a key role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease after mild traumatic brain injury. Restoring vascular functions may be beneficial for patients with mild TBI and potentially reduce the risk of developing AD.

A Histological and Morphometric Assessment of the Adult and Juvenile Rat Livers after Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Ruslan Prus et al.

Summary: Traumatic brain injury is a serious issue in modern medicine, with our study showing that mild TBI causes different histological changes in the livers of adult and juvenile rats. The most significant changes were observed on days 5-7, with compensatory phenomena prevailing on days 14-21 in both groups.
