The New System of Mexican Migration: The Role of Entry Mode-Specific Human and Social Capital

Undocumented Again? DACA Rescission, Emotions, and Incorporation Outcomes among Young Adults

Summary: Former President Trump's election and subsequent anti-immigrant policy initiatives created uncertainty for undocumented immigrants, especially those who had benefited from the DACA executive action. This study uses in-depth interviews to examine how the 2016 election and the rescinding of DACA in 2017 affected the emotions and sense of security of undocumented young adults. The findings demonstrate the impact of policy threats on the societal incorporation of immigrant young adults and highlight the experiences of loss in education, labor market participation, belonging, and civic engagement.

Uncertainty About the Size of the Unauthorized Foreign-Born Population in the United States

Summary: The residual method is a common way to estimate the unauthorized foreign-born population in the U.S., with the majority of uncertainty arising from the emigration rates among legal permanent residents, naturalized citizens, and humanitarian entrants. Findings indicate that there is a range in estimates due to uncertainties in underlying assumptions, with a 50% chance that the unauthorized foreign-born population falls between 9.1 and 12.2 million, and a 95% chance that it falls between 7.0 and 15.7 million.

Measuring structural xenophobia: US State immigration policy climates over ten years

Summary: This study created a structural xenophobia measure by using a social determinants of immigrant health framework, analyzing fourteen policies across five domains over a ten-year period from 2009 to 2019 in the US. The results show that the US has an exclusionary immigration policy climate at the state level, with most state-level immigration policies being exclusionary towards immigrants.
