Multiobjective optimization design of hybrid composite laminates for vibration using sequential permutation table method

Zhao Jing et al.

Summary: This work presents a sequential permutation table (SPT) method for the multiobjective optimization design of two-material hybrid composite laminates, which maximizes the fundamental frequency and minimizes the cost/weight. Through vibration analysis and ply orientation optimization, the SPT method demonstrates its effectiveness and efficiency in optimal design of hybrid composite laminates.

Study of matrix modifications by nano-clay on the mechanical properties of AA3003 honeycomb sandwich panels

P. Prasanth et al.

Summary: In this study, the addition of nano-clay was attempted to improve the face/core adhesion of composite sandwich panels. The results showed a significant enhancement in the mechanical properties of the panels, particularly under in-plane compression and bending load. Increasing the strain rate was found to increase the failure load of the sandwich panels, and SEM analysis revealed better adhesion between the aluminum honeycomb core and face sheets.

State of the art review on mechanical properties of sandwich composite structures

Vivek Patekar et al.

Summary: Sandwich composite structures are widely used in various industries due to their high specific strength and energy absorption capabilities. The mechanical properties of these structures depend on the material properties of the face sheet, core, and their interface. Researchers have explored the use of nano-fillers to improve the mechanical properties of composite structures. This review discusses the influence of various material and geometrical parameters, such as fiber reinforcement and nano-fillers, on the mechanical properties of sandwich composite structures. Additionally, the deformation behavior and mechanical properties of the honeycomb core, as well as the effect of temperature variation, are discussed. Future advancements in this field are also explored.

Dynamic compression and tensile responses of an epoxy matrix composites at high strain rate

H. X. Hu et al.

Summary: The study showed that the dynamic compression and tensile mechanical behaviors of bicomponent epoxy resin matrix composites filled with semi-crystalline thermoplastic Polyether-ether ketone were influenced by both strain rate and the properties of the epoxy resin matrix. The PAEK-C fillers exhibited significant toughening effect, increasing the ductility of the samples and affecting the stress-strain curves.

Effect of geometrical parameters on the flexural properties of sandwich structures with 3D-printed honeycomb core and E-glass/epoxy Face-sheets

Sabah Pirouzfar et al.

Summary: This study investigates the flexural properties of 3D-printed honeycomb structures and sandwich panels with face-sheets made of E-glass/epoxy laminates. The impact of different geometrical parameters on the flexural properties is examined, with the horizontal honeycomb core structure showing the highest normalized energy absorption. The use of additive manufacturing technology significantly improves the flexural properties of the honeycomb core sandwich structures compared to traditional materials like Nomex and Aluminum.
