Pore structure typing and fractal characteristics of lacustrine shale from Kongdian Formation in East China

Binyu Ma et al.

Summary: Nine core samples from the lacustrine Kongdian Formation in the Cangdong Sag, Bohai Bay Basin, China, were analyzed for their geochemistry and pore structure characteristics using various tests. The samples were divided into two groups based on hysteresis loops and pore structure parameters. The pore-throats of the samples were classified into four categories based on their Df-MIP values, and differences in D-f between different tests were attributed to sample sizes and pore types. Additionally, a positive relationship was found between D-f-(LN)P-C and various pore parameters in LNP tests.

Coalbed methane enrichment model of low-rank coals in multi-coals superimposed regions: a case study in the middle section of southern Junggar Basin

Haihai Hou et al.

Summary: The study in the central section of the southern Junggar Basin reveals that areas with higher gas content are mainly located in the eastern Urumqi River-Santun River region, while gas content is relatively low in the western Manasi River-Taxi River region. The gas content in coal seams first increases and then decreases with increasing buried depth, with the critical depth of the inflection point ranging from 600 m to 850 m.

Comparison of fractal dimensions from nitrogen adsorption data in shale via different models

Kouqi Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, the fractal dimensions of several shale samples were evaluated and compared using nitrogen adsorption isotherms. The Frenkel-Halsey-Hill, Neimark, and Wang-Li models can all be applied for fractal dimension characterization of shale samples. However, as the micropore surface area or volume increases in the samples, the differences in fractal dimensions among these models also increase.
