Differential expression of glucose metabolism-related genes and AMP-activated protein kinases in crop tissue of male and female pigeons (Columba livia domestica) during the incubation and chick-rearing periods

Summary: This study investigated the carbohydrate contents of crop milk, insulin and glucose concentrations in serum, and the expression patterns of AMP-activated protein kinases (AMPKs) and genes related to glucose metabolism in pigeon crops during the breeding period. The results showed that glycolysis in pigeon crops was enhanced during chick-rearing, while gluconeogenesis was significantly inhibited. The stability of the insulin level suggests that it was probably not involved in the regulation of glucose metabolism in crop tissues.

Influence of dietary phosphorus concentrations on the performance of rearing pigeons (Columba livia), and bone properties of squabs

Summary: The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of dietary P levels on the performance of rearing pigeons, and bone characteristics of squabs from 7 to 21 d of age. The results showed that the deficiency of dietary P in parent pigeons could cause poor bone mineralization of squabs, while the supplementation of 0.8% NPP had a positive influence on mineralization of squabs.

Lysine Interacts with Frizzled7 to Activate β-Catenin in Satellite Cell-Participated Skeletal Muscle Growth

Summary: This study revealed that lysine not only controls protein synthesis but also plays a role in regulating skeletal muscle growth. The expression of frizzled7 (FZD7) was positively correlated with lysine levels, and this was consistent with the activation of the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway. In addition, it was found that lysine binds to recombinant pig frizzled7 (rpFZD7) protein. This finding provides concrete evidence that lysine acts as a ligand for FZD7 to activate beta-catenin and stimulate muscle satellite cells (MuSCs) in promoting skeletal muscle growth.

Monitoring the variations in physicochemical characteristics of squab meat during the braising cooking process

The results showed that the color, moisture content, and drip loss rate decreased gradually during the processing, while the crude protein content, pH value, and diameter of muscle fiber increased. Furthermore, the hardness, springiness, and chewiness increased during the braising step and decreased during the frying step.

Intestinal Immune Development Is Accompanied by Temporal Deviation in Microbiota Composition of Newly Hatched Pigeon Squabs

Summary: This study investigates the interaction between intestinal mucosal immune system development and commensal microbiota colonization in neonatal pigeons. The results show that the first week after hatching is crucial for microbiota colonization in the ileum, and the jejunum plays a vital role in immunity. Temporal changes in innate immune-related genes and microbiota composition occur in the ileum during this period. Colonization by Escherichia and Lactobacillus within the first week of life is likely a causative factor for proinflammatory cytokine expression in the ileum, and adaptive immune responses mediated by Th17 cells begin early but may be less effective in maintaining the inflammatory response balance. The study also suggests that humoral adaptive immunity is less active during the first 2 weeks of life.

The composition of HMM is influenced by various factors such as maternal body mass index, diet, antibiotic use, delivery time and type, and breastfeeding mode. The COVID-19 pandemic has emerged as a new risk factor for the modification of HMM. HMM plays a crucial role in gastrointestinal colonization in children, and perturbations in HMM can lead to microbial dysbiosis and the development of chronic diseases later in life.

Exploration of Proteomics Analysis of Crop Milk in Pigeons (Columba livia) during the Lactation Period
