UV-C irradiation accelerated the deposition of suberin and lignin at wounds by activating phenylpropanoid metabolism in potato tubers

Xuejiao Zhang et al.

Summary: UV-C can directly deactivate pathogens and reduce postharvest diseases of fruits and vegetables by inducing resistance. However, whether UV-C can accelerate the wound healing of potato tubers has not been studied. The results of this study showed that UV-C irradiation up-regulated the expression of certain genes and activated enzymatic reactions involved in wound healing, leading to decreased weight loss and disease index in the treated tubers. Overall, UV-C irradiation can be utilized as a simple and cost-effective technology for accelerating wound healing of potato tubers.

Diphenyleneiodonium delays the deposition of suberin polyphenolic and lignin at wounds of potato tubers by inhibiting Strbohs transcription and NADPH oxidase activity

Yingyue Ren et al.

Summary: The study showed that DPI treatment decreased the expression of Strbohs in potato tuber wound tissue, inhibited the activity of NOX and superoxide dismutase, reduced the accumulation of H2O2 and O2 center dot, leading to decreased deposition of SPP and lignin at the wound surfaces.
