Gene deletion and constitutive expression of the pectate lyase gene 1 (MoPL1) lead to diminished virulence of Magnaporthe oryzae

Alex Wegner et al.

Summary: This study examined the role of pectate lyases (Pls) in the infection process of Magnaporthe oryzae, the causal agent of rice blast disease. The results showed that the expression of MoPL1 gene significantly increased during the infection process, and deletion or constitutive expression of MoPL1 led to a significant reduction in virulence. Furthermore, it was found that the enzymatic activity of MoPL1 was responsible for the diminished virulence.

Highly efficient removal of patulin using immobilized enzymes of Pseudomonas aeruginosa TF-06 entrapped in calcium alginate beads

Mengyang Xing et al.

Summary: In this study, a Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain TF-06 capable of degrading patulin was isolated, and the optimum conditions for enzyme immobilization were investigated. Calcium alginate immobilized enzyme beads effectively detoxified patulin in apple juice without negative effects on juice quality, providing a promising solution for the issue of enzyme separation in commercial applications of mycotoxin biological detoxification in fruit juice.

The Small GTPases in Fungal Signaling Conservation and Function

Mitzuko Dautt-Castro et al.

Summary: Monomeric GTPases, belonging to the Ras superfamily, are small proteins involved in various biological processes, regulated by GEFs and GAPs. Different families of these GTPases in fungi play roles in morphogenesis, secondary metabolism, vesicle trafficking, and virulence.

Ras subfamily GTPases regulate development, aflatoxin biosynthesis and pathogenicity in the fungus Aspergillus flavus

Zhuo Zhu et al.

Summary: The Ras subfamily proteins in A. flavus were shown to have significant impact on growth, sporulation, sclerotia formation, and aflatoxin production. Rsr1 and Rheb were crucial for the pathogenicity of A. flavus.

NADPH Oxidase Regulates the Growth and Pathogenicity of Penicillium expansum

Xuemei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the regulatory effects of NADPH oxidase (Nox) genes on the growth and pathogenicity of Penicillium expansum in apple fruits. Mutants of Delta PeNoxA, Delta PeNoxR, and Delta PeRacA genes showed differential effects on the colonization process, with PeRacA demonstrating the strongest regulatory effect. Analysis of ROS content in the mycelium confirmed the functionality of the Nox mutations.
