Long-term in vivo degradation behavior of poly(trimethylene carbonate-co-2, 2'-dimethyltrimethylene carbonate)

Zhipeng Hou et al.

Summary: This study prepared poly(trimethylene carbonate-co-2, 2'-dimethyltrimethylene carbonate) (P(TMC-co-DTC)) copolymers with different molecular weights or molar ratios and investigated their in vivo degradation behavior through implantation experiments in rats. The results showed that increasing the content of DTC segments in the copolymer reduced mass loss and enhanced form-stability, while increasing the molecular weight accelerated degradation rate and improved form-stability. The study provides promising carrier materials for long-acting drug delivery systems.

Aliphatic Polycarbonates from Cyclic Carbonate Monomers and Their Application as Biomaterials

Wei Yu et al.

Summary: Aliphatic polycarbonates are gaining attention as biomaterials due to their biocompatibility and tunable degradation, with the ability to introduce functional handles through careful design of cyclic carbonate monomers. These materials have been widely explored for a variety of biomedical applications, from drug delivery to tissue regeneration and vascular graft design, showing great potential for therapeutic use in vitro and in vivo.

Controllable Degradation of Poly (trimethylene carbonate) via Self-blending with Different Molecular Weights

Zhipeng Hou et al.

Summary: Blending films of Poly (trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC) homopolymers with different molecular weights can tailor the degradation properties, reduce mass loss, and prolong the application lifespan. During degradation, the film thickness decreases and low molecular weight degradation products accumulate on the surface, affecting the glass transition temperature (T-g) and thermal stability. The degradation behavior of PTMC should be considered when using it in biomedical fields.
