Degradation and lifetime prediction of thermoplastic polyurethane encapsulants in seawater for underwater acoustic sensor applications

Eun Yeop Choi et al.

Summary: Degradation of TPU encapsulants used in underwater acoustic sensors was examined by aging in seawater, and the lifetime of TPU encapsulants was estimated using an accelerated lifetime test. The hydrolysis degradation of TPU resulted in a decrease in tensile strength, and failure times were estimated based on changes in tensile strength over aging time. A prediction model based on Arrhenius equation and Weibull distribution was determined for the lifetime prediction of TPU encapsulants.

Thermomechanical response of thermoplastic polyurethane used in MEX additive manufacturing over repetitive mechanical recycling courses

Nectarios Vidakis et al.

Summary: Sustainability is crucial in today's world due to the rising usage of polymers. Mechanical recycling of polymers, involving grinding/shredding and thermal extrusion, can negatively impact the mechanical performance and introduce contamination. This study investigates the response of Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) in material extrusion (MEX) 3D printing after multiple recycling cycles. The results show that TPU mechanical recycling is a viable option, with the highest tensile strength observed in the sixth repetition of thermal reprocessing.

Synergetic Effect of ?-ZrP Nanosheets and Nitrogen-Based Flame Retardants on Thermoplastic Polyurethane

Sensen Han et al.

Summary: A supramolecular self-assembly method was used to prepare MCA@alpha-ZrP nanosheets as a hybrid flame retardant for TPU. The hybrid exhibited a uniform dispersion and strong interfacial strength within the TPU matrix, resulting in improved mechanical and fire-safety properties. The MCA@alpha-ZrP hybrid reduced the peak heat release rate of TPU by 49.7% and significantly promoted its fire performance index by 90%.

Structure sensitivity of CuO in CO oxidation over CeO2-CuO/Cu2O catalysts

Zhenhua Zhang et al.

Summary: By studying the CO oxidation catalyzed by CeO2-CuO/Cu2O nanocomposites with different CuO structures, it was found that the CuO-CeO2 interfaces in the CeO2-CuO/c-Cu2O (cubes) nanocomposites exhibit higher intrinsic activity, indicating that the active oxygen species originates from CuO. An active 13.2% CeO2-CuO/c-Cu2O(s) catalyst for CO oxidation was achieved on fine Cu2O cubes, possessing a high density of active sites.

Unveiling the Bonding Nature of C3 Intermediates in the CO2 Reduction Reaction through the Oxygen-Deficient Cu2O(110) Surface-A DFT Study

Chun-Chih Chang et al.

Summary: Copper-based catalysts can produce multicarbon products through carbon dioxide reduction reaction (CO2RR), but the selectivity and activity of higher-carbon products still need improvement. The diversification of protonation sites of C2 and C1 intermediates limits the C3 catalytic cycles. The Cu2O(110) surface promotes the coupling of a specific C2 intermediate and CO in the mixed-valence regions of Cu1+ and Cu-0.

Preparation of Ni-Fe layered double hydroxides and its application in thermoplastic polyurethane with flame retardancy and smoke suppression

Shurong Xu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new flame retardant filler, Ni-Fe layered double hydroxides, in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) to improve its flame retardant properties and smoke suppression. The addition of Ni-Fe layered double hydroxides significantly reduced the peak heat release rate and total heat release of TPU, as well as decreased smoke production. The mechanical properties of TPU were minimally affected by the addition of Ni-Fe layered double hydroxides.
