Risk assessment for the native anurans from an alien invasive species, American bullfrogs (Lithobates catesbeianus), in South Korea

Hye-Rin Park et al.

Summary: The invasive American Bullfrog (IAB) is one of the worst invasive amphibian species globally, and South Korea also faces challenges from this species. By studying their home range, preferred habitats, morphology, behavior, and ecology, we found that many native anurans in Korea are at potential risk. Based on these results, immediate actions are recommended to conserve the native amphibians.

Summary: The complete mitochondrial genome of Pseudemys peninsularis in Korea was sequenced and characterized. Phylogenetic analysis showed a closer relationship between P. peninsularis and Chrysemys picta than Trachemys scripta elegans.

The first record of an invasive reptile species, Pelomedusa cf. olivacea (Schweigger, 1812) (Pelomedusidae, Testudines), in the wild of South Korea

Seung-Min Park et al.

Summary: Invasive species are a global conservation concern, and South Korea is facing the same challenge, particularly due to the growth of the pet trade. This study reports the first record of a Pelomedusa species in the Asian continent, which was found in the wild in South Korea, imported as a pet. The authors recommend immediate control measures and strict monitoring of the pet trade to prevent the introduction of more invasive species.
