Perceived benefits and limitations of using patient-reported outcome measures in clinical practice with individual patients: a systematic review of qualitative studies

Rachel Campbell et al.

Summary: The study found that using PROMs in clinical practice has five key benefits, including promoting active patient involvement, enhancing consultation focus, improving quality of care, enabling standardized monitoring of patient outcomes, and enhancing the patient-clinician relationship. However, some limitations were also identified, such as the potential for PROMs to shift the focus of consultations, inaccurately estimate problems, raise unrealistic expectations for care, inhibit patient-clinician interaction, lack clinically meaningful information, and not be suitable for all patients.

Adherence to Telemonitoring by Electronic Patient-Reported Outcome Measures in Patients with Chronic Diseases: A Systematic Review

Jim Wiegel et al.

Summary: This study identified potential factors associated with adherence to telemonitoring by ePROMs in patients with chronic diseases, finding that there is not enough conclusive evidence to support a clear association. The results were conflicting or inconclusive due to the limited number and quality of available studies. Further mixed-method studies are needed to optimize adherence to telemonitoring with ePROMs.

Perceptions of Telehealth vs In-Person Visits Among Older Adults With Advanced Kidney Disease, Care Partners, and Clinicians

Keren Ladin et al.

Summary: Older patients, care partners, and kidney clinicians have divergent views on patient-centered telehealth care, especially in terms of clinical effectiveness, patient experience, access to care, and clinician-patient relationship. Understanding these perceptions can help identify barriers that need to be addressed to promote high-quality care and telehealth utilization.
