Understanding the chemical kinetics for plasma in liquid: Reaction mechanism of ethanol reforming in microwave discharge

Jing-Lin Liu et al.

Summary: A novel kinetic model was developed to understand the chemical nature of fuel reforming in liquid phase discharge. The model was verified by experimental results for ethanol reforming in microwave discharge plasma in liquid. The key reactive species in the liquid phase discharge were identified, and the rate determining steps for ethanol conversion were revealed. The kinetic control mechanism for ethanol reforming in liquid phase discharge was determined, and the energy transfer pathway for discharge power to chemical energy was simulated. A competitive energy efficiency of -85% for ethanol reforming was achieved in the liquid phase discharge.

Time resolved study of ignition of microwave discharge in liquid hydrocarbons

Yuri A. Lebedev et al.

Summary: The study presents the results of acoustic phenomena and structural changes in microwave discharge in liquid hydrocarbons. It is found that the discharge is always attached to the top of the cone when a conical-end antenna is used, and ignition of the discharge generates a set of acoustic oscillations with frequencies corresponding to the characteristic oscillations of the reactor.

Rare-earth elements detection using diatomic molecular laser-induced plasma spectroscopy

M. Gaft et al.

Summary: The detection of Rare-Earth-Elements by LIBS using atomic and ionic emission is often challenging due to spectral interferences from other elements. This study shows that molecular emission can be used for analytical purposes, expanding the range of detectable elements. The presence of molecular emission opens up opportunities for isotopes analysis using Laser Ablation Molecular Isotopic Spectrometry and Molecular Laser-Induced Fluorescence - LIBS combination.

Zero-Dimensional Simulation of Microwave Discharge in Aqueous Ethanol Solution

Yu. A. Lebedev et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of microwave discharge on chemical reactions in water and ethanol solutions was investigated through simulation and compared with experimental data. The results demonstrated that the calculated concentrations of the main decomposition products were consistent with the experimental data under different conditions of mixture composition and power inputs.

Mechanism analysis of hydrogen production by microwave discharge in ethanol liquid

Tonghui Zhu et al.

Summary: Microwave discharge in ethanol-water mixtures can achieve optimistic flow rate of hydrogen production due to high mass transfer efficiency and water participation. The amount of hydrogen production is closely related to the generation of the intermediate product CH3CHO. The OH radicals play a crucial role in inhibiting solid carbon and by-product formation, while promoting hydrogen generation.

Light emission from microwave discharges in liquid hydrocarbons at the initial stages of their development

Yuri A. Lebedev et al.

Summary: Time-resolved optical techniques were used to analyze the initial stages of microwave discharge in liquid alkanes, revealing sequences of light pulses with different shapes and amplitudes. The discharge generated emission bands of the C-2 molecule, lines of hydrogen, and the C+ ion, but no continuum associated with solid carbon-containing particles. An anomalous spectrum of the C-2 molecule was observed in some cases, presenting new challenges for further research.
