Relationship of the methanol production, pectin and pectinase activity during apple wine fermentation and aging

Yingying Han et al.

Summary: Understanding the structure of pectin and the activity of pectinases is crucial for controlling the methanol content in apple wine. This study compared different fermentation methods and found that inhibiting pectinase activity or decreasing the aging period can effectively reduce the methanol content in apple wine.

CGTase, a novel antimicrobial protein from Bacillus cereus YUPP-10, suppresses Verticillium dahliae and mediates plant defence responses

Jinglong Zhou et al.

Summary: This study identified a novel antimicrobial cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (CGTase) from Bacillus cereus YUPP-10 that plays a key role in combating Verticillium wilt. Through functional analysis and gene mutation, critical domains of CGTase were identified, demonstrating its mechanisms for inhibiting V. dahliae growth, activating plant immunity, and enhancing plant disease resistance.

A novel raffinose biological pathway is observed by symbionts of cotton≡Verticillium dahliae to improve salt tolerance genetically on cotton

Ruifeng Cui et al.

Summary: The study established a symbiont named Cotton equivalent to VD between cotton and Verticillium dahliae, which significantly improved cotton salt tolerance by enhancing raffinose content. Through molecular and functional analysis, the research provides new insights into future salt tolerance mechanisms and new salt-tolerant materials.

Genome-Wide Analysis of Ribosomal Protein GhRPS6 and Its Role in Cotton Verticillium Wilt Resistance

Dandan Zhu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the important role of GhRPS6 in cotton resistance to Verticillium wilt, with knockdown of its expression leading to decreased resistance. Transgenic plants and subcellular localization experiments suggest that GhRPS6 could be a potential molecular target for enhancing resistance.

GhMYB4 downregulates lignin biosynthesis and enhances cotton resistance to Verticillium dahliae

Shenghua Xiao et al.

Summary: The study reveals that GhMYB4 acts as a negative regulator in lignin biosynthesis in cotton, leading to enhanced disease resistance by reducing lignin content and stimulating plant defense responses through the release of oligogalacturonides (DAMPs). This findings provide a new candidate gene for cotton disease-resistant breeding and enhances the understanding of the relationship between lignin synthesis, OG release, and plant immunity.

Highly Efficient Leaf Base Protoplast Isolation and Transient Expression Systems for Orchids and Other Important Monocot Crops

Rui Ren et al.

Summary: The study established an efficient orchid protoplast isolation protocol by selecting suitable source materials and optimizing enzymatic conditions. Viable protoplasts were successfully isolated from different tissues and organs of orchids, showing marked advantages over previous protocols. The protoplast system was applied for transient expression and demonstrated high efficiency for further molecular studies in orchids and other economically important monocot crops.

Genome-wide identification and expression analysis of Raffinose synthetase family in cotton

Ruifeng Cui et al.

Summary: This study identified 74 RAFS genes from G. hirsutum, G. barbadense, G. arboreum and G. raimondii, and found that the gene family could be divided into four major clades. The gene structure was relatively conservative, and some genes might be regulated by gibberellins and abscisic acid. Transcriptome analysis suggested that genes in clade III are highly expressed in organs such as seed, root, cotyledon, ovule and fiber, and are involved in resistance to abiotic stress. Gene co-expression network analysis showed that key genes like GhRFS2A-GhRFS6A, GhRFS6D, GhRFS7D, and GhRFS8A-GhRFS11A have high expression levels under salt, drought, cold and heat stress.
