MicroRNA candidate miRcand137 in apple is induced by Botryosphaeria dothidea for impairing host defense

Xinyi Yu et al.

Summary: MicroRNA-mediated gene silencing is a key regulatory pathway in plant-pathogen interactions. This study identified a miRNA, miRcand137, which compromises apple resistance to Botryosphaeria dothidea and inhibits the anti-fungal defense pathway. The differential accumulation of miRcand137 in resistant and susceptible apples is associated with variations in the precursor sequence. The transcriptional activation of MIRCAND137 by the invading fungi suggests its role as an infection strategy.

miR164g-MsNAC022 acts as a novel module mediating drought response by transcriptional regulation of reactive oxygen species scavenging systems in apple

Xiang Peng et al.

Summary: This study reports the identification of drought-responsive miRNA, miR164g, in the wild apple species Malus sieversii and elucidates its role in apple drought tolerance.
