DcWRKY33 promotes petal senescence in carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.) by activating genes involved in the biosynthesis of ethylene and abscisic acid and accumulation of reactive oxygen species

Teng Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that ethylene treatment significantly upregulated the gene encoding WRKY transcription factor DcWRKY33. Silencing and overexpression of DcWRKY33 could delay and accelerate the senescence of carnation petals, respectively. ABA and H2O2 treatments also accelerated petal senescence by inducing the expression of DcWRKY33. Furthermore, DcWRKY33 directly binds to the promoters of ethylene and ABA biosynthesis genes and the ROS generation gene to activate their expression. Ethylene, ABA, and ROS were found to have relationships with each other. This study elucidated the role of DcWRKY33 in petal senescence and provides insights for prolonging the vase life of cut carnation.

Histone H3K4 methyltransferase DcATX1 promotes ethylene induced petal senescence in carnation

Shan Feng et al.

Summary: In this study, researchers found that the histone methyltransferase DcATX1 plays a role in ethylene-induced petal senescence in carnation. Through increasing H3K4me3 levels, DcATX1 promotes the expression of DcWRKY75, DcACS1, DcACO1, DcSAG12, and potentially other downstream target genes, thereby accelerating petal senescence in carnation.

A plant-specific module for homologous recombination repair

Xuanpeng Wang et al.

Summary: This study reveals the important role of a plant-specific ubiquitin E3 ligase, DDRM1, in homologous recombination repair (HR), which is essential for maintaining genome stability. DDRM1 interacts with and ubiquitinates the transcription factor SOG1, promoting its stability. This research uncovers the regulatory mechanism of HR in plants and highlights the significance of ubiquitination in HR.

The transcription factors DcHB30 and DcWRKY75 antagonistically regulate ethylene-induced petal senescence in carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus)

Han Xu et al.

Summary: This study reveals the importance of antagonistic transcription factors in carnation petal senescence. The transcription factors DcHB30 and DcWRKY75 competitively regulate the expression of their co-targeted genes, thereby integrating ethylene signaling and regulating petal senescence.

Ubiquitinated DA1 negatively regulates vascular cambium activity through modulating the stability of WOX4 in Populus

Xianfeng Tang et al.

Summary: This study identified a negative regulator of wood formation, PagDA1, in poplar trees. PagDA1 restricts cambial activity by modulating the degradation of PagWOX4, thereby affecting the development and formation of secondary xylem.

Ethylene signaling in rice and Arabidopsis: New regulators and mechanisms

He Zhao et al.

Summary: Ethylene is a gaseous hormone that is essential for plant growth and stress responses. The signaling pathway of ethylene shows unique features in different plant species and recent studies have identified novel regulators and mechanisms in rice. Understanding the crosstalk between ethylene and other plant hormones is crucial for agricultural purposes.

DcWRKY75 promotes ethylene induced petal senescence in carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus L.)

Han Xu et al.

Summary: The study identified a key transcription factor, DcWRKY75, in carnation flowers that plays a crucial role in ethylene-induced petal senescence by regulating the expression of ethylene biosynthetic genes and senescence-associated genes. Additionally, it was found that DcWRKY75 is a direct target gene of DcEIL3-1, which interacts with DcWRKY75 to regulate ethylene-induced petal senescence in carnation.
