Biphasic control of cell expansion by auxin coordinates etiolated seedling development

Minmin Du et al.

Summary: This study reveals the mechanism by which auxin regulates hypocotyl elongation and apical hook formation in etiolated seedlings. Shortly after germination, high levels of auxin inhibit elongation, providing a time window for apical hook development. Gravity-induced auxin maximum on the concave side of the hook induces gene expression that leads to differential cell elongation. Subsequently, auxin concentrations decline and switch from inhibiting to promoting elongation, thereby driving hypocotyl elongation.

Adenosine monophosphate deaminase modulates BIN2 activity through hydrogen peroxide-induced oligomerization

Qing Lu et al.

Summary: In this study, researchers found that a mutation in the AMPD gene reduces the sensitivity of Arabidopsis seedlings to brassinosteroids by modulating BIN2 oligomerization and activity in a hydrogen peroxide-dependent manner. They also discovered an H2O2 homeostasis-mediated regulation loop between AMPD and BIN2, which fine-tunes the BIN2 kinase activity to control plant growth and development.

The conjugation of SUMO to the transcription factor MYC2 functions in blue light-mediated seedling development in Arabidopsis

Moumita Srivastava et al.

Summary: This study found that blue light induces the SUMOylation of MYC2, enhancing its function in blue light signaling. The research also revealed that SUMOylation regulates Arabidopsis seedling development by modulating the interaction of MYC2 with its cognate DNA cis-element and with the ubiquitin ligase PUB10.

SUMOylation of PHYTOCHROME INTERACTING FACTOR 3 promotes photomorphogenesis in Arabidopsis thaliana

Peter Bernula et al.

Summary: In Arabidopsis thaliana, it was discovered that PIF3 is SUMOylated at the Lys13 residue, affecting its interaction with phyB and influencing photomorphogenesis. The mutant PIF3(K13R) with a SUMO acceptor site shows enhanced biological activity, leading to a promotion of photomorphogenesis.

A BIN2-GLK1 Signaling Module Integrates Brassinosteroid and Light Signaling to Repress Chloroplast Development in the Dark

Dawei Zhang et al.

Summary: GSK3-like kinases in Arabidopsis play roles in plant development, including chloroplast development, and are regulated by BIN2 through phosphorylation. The interaction between BIN2 and GLK1/2 affects chloroplast development and responses to BRs/darkness, modulating photomorphogenesis.
