Emerging Novel Approaches for the Enhanced Delivery of Natural Products for the Management of Neurodegenerative Diseases

Akshay Bandiwadekar et al.

Summary: Neurodegenerative diseases affect various parts of the brain and natural compounds have shown neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. However, their effectiveness is limited by the blood-brain barrier and pharmacokinetic properties, necessitating novel approaches to enhance drug delivery efficiency.

The hepatoprotective effect of aminoguanidine in acute liver injury caused by CCl4 in rats

Tomislav Kostic et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that aminoguanidine has a significant hepatoprotective effect in acute liver damage induced by CCl4, attributed to its antioxidant effects, inhibition of pro-oxidative and pro-inflammatory mediators, and induction of damaged hepatocytes into apoptosis.

Sweritranslactone D, a hepatoprotective novel secoiridoid dimer with tetracyclic lactone skeleton from heat-transformed swertiamarin

Ya-Dan Zou et al.

Summary: Swertia mileensis, also known as Qing-Ye-Dan (QYD), has been documented in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia for its efficacy in treating hepatitis. The main active component, swertiamarin, was not detected in the decoction, suggesting that the efficacy of QYD may be due to heat-transformed products of swertiamarin (HTPS). Further investigation led to the discovery of a novel compound, sweritranslactone D (1), with a tetracyclic lactone skeleton and better hepatoprotective activity than N-acetyl-L-cysteine in vitro.

Hepatoprotective effects of extracts, fractions and compounds from the stem bark of Pentaclethra macrophylla Benth: Evidence from in vitro and in vivo studies

Cyrille Lionel Kamga Bomgning et al.

Summary: The study identified bioactive hepatoprotective components in the ethanol extract of Pentaclethra macrophylla stem bark through in vitro and in vivo experiments. The components showed concentration-dependent inhibition of lipid peroxidation, with 11-O-galloylbergenin being the most effective. Overall, the extract exhibited hepatoprotective effects by inhibiting lipid peroxidation and protecting the liver against structural damages.

Complete chloroplast genome of Kadsura coccinea (Lem.) ACSm. (Schisandraceae): genome structure and evolution

Hui-Zhen Qin et al.

Summary: Kadsura coccinea is a woody vine plant that produces edible red fruits rich in nutrients and antioxidant activities. The complete chloroplast genome of Kadsura coccinea is 145,413 base pairs in length, containing a pair of inverted repeat regions, one large single-copy region, and one small single-copy region. There are a total of 126 genes in the chloroplast genome, including 82 protein-coding genes, 35 tRNA genes, and 8 rRNA genes. Phylogenetic analysis shows that Kadsura coccinea is closely related to Kadsura longipedunculata. This study provides a foundation for further research on Kadsura coccinea.
