Synthesis and Biological Evaluation of Steviol Derivatives with Improved Cytotoxic Activity and Selectivity

Jian-Song Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, 28 new steviol derivatives were synthesized and their cytotoxicity evaluated. Among them, the new compound 8f displayed potent antiproliferative activity against liver cancer cells while showing weak cytotoxicity against normal cells. The study revealed that 8f induced apoptosis in liver cancer cells by modulating multiple signaling pathways. The results suggest that steviol derivatives hold promise as lead compounds for new cancer therapies, and further modifications of steviol may enhance efficacy and selectivity.

Tigliane and rhamnofolane glycosides from Euphorbia wallichii prevent oxidative stress-induced neuronal death in PC-12 cells

Fang -Yu Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, seven new tigliane glycosides and five new rhamnofolane glycosides were isolated from Euphorbia wallichii. These compounds exhibited significant neuroprotective effects on SNP-induced neuronal death and were more effective than the clinical drug edaravone. Mechanistic study showed that the most active compound could inhibit ROS accumulation and restore the mitochondrial membrane potential through modulating the Nrf2 signaling pathway.
