The role of 14-3-3 proteins in plant growth and response to abiotic stress

Ye Huang et al.

Summary: 14-3-3 proteins, widely present in plant species, interact with phosphorylated target proteins, participating in signal transduction, plant growth and development, and responses to environmental stresses. They form multigene families, mediating various cellular processes and stress responses through hormone-related pathways. Ongoing research focuses on understanding their roles and addressing unresolved questions in plant functions.

Multiomics analyses reveal high temperature-induced molecular regulation of ascorbic acid and capsaicin biosynthesis in pepper fruits

Chaochao Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, we conducted transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic analyses on pepper fruits subjected to heat stress. The results showed that the response to heat stress mainly involved genes, proteins and metabolites related to photosynthesis, response to stimulus, carbohydrate metabolic process, and protein folding process. Additionally, the content of capsaicin and ascorbic acid in the pepper fruits was found to be significantly affected by heat stress. Through analysis of promoter sequences, three transcription factors potentially regulating the expression of key genes in the capsaicin biosynthesis pathway in response to heat stress were identified. Overall, this research provides a better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying the response of pepper fruits to heat stress, and offers a theoretical basis for the management of pre-harvest temperature to ensure high-quality pepper fruits.

Overexpression of SlBBX17 affects plant growth and enhances heat tolerance in tomato

Xin Xu et al.

Summary: SlBBX17 gene plays a dual role in tomato growth and heat tolerance, acting as a negative regulator of plant growth and a positive regulator of heat tolerance. Overexpression of SlBBX17 leads to decreased chlorophyll content and lower net photosynthetic rate, but increased tolerance to heat stress.

14-3-3 proteins contribute to autophagy by modulating SINAT-mediated degradation of ATG13

Hua Qi et al.

Summary: 14-3-3 proteins, specifically 14-3-3k and 14-3-3j, modulate autophagy dynamics by promoting the proteolysis of ATG13 through SINAT-mediated degradation. These proteins directly interact with SINATs and ATG13 in both vitro and vivo. Their association with phosphorylated ATG13 is crucial for ATG13 stability and formation of the ATG1-ATG13 complex.

A bHLH transcription factor, SlbHLH96, promotes drought tolerance in tomato

Yunfei Liang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that SlbHLH96 is a positive regulator of drought tolerance in tomato by stimulating the expression of genes related to antioxidants, ABA signaling molecules, and stress-related proteins. Furthermore, SlbHLH96 can repress the expression of an ABA catabolic gene to regulate drought tolerance.

The apple 14-3-3 protein MdGRF11 interacts with the BTB protein MdBT2 to regulate nitrate deficiency-induced anthocyanin accumulation

Yi-Ran Ren et al.

Summary: This study revealed that MdBT2 undergoes posttranslational modifications in response to nitrate deficiency, and interacts with MdGRF11, a 14-3-3 protein, which negatively regulates the stability of MdBT2 protein via a 26S proteasome-dependent pathway. This leads to increased abundance of MdMYB1 proteins and activation of anthocyanin biosynthesis-related genes. The results demonstrate the critical role of 14-3-3 proteins in the regulation of nitrate deficiency-induced anthocyanin accumulation.

Genome-wide investigation and comparative analysis of MATE gene family in Rosaceae species and their regulatory role in abiotic stress responses in Chinese pear (Pyrus bretschneideri)

Muhammad Aamir Manzoor et al.

Summary: In this study, 404 MATE genes from six Rosaceae genomes were identified and classified into eight main subfamilies based on structural and phylogenetic analysis. The results suggest that whole-genome duplication events may have played a vital role in the expansion of the MATE genes family. The analysis revealed functional divergence among different subfamilies, providing insights into the functions, expansion complexity, and evolutions of the MATE genes in Chinese pear and five Rosaceae species.

Mechanisms of elevated CO2-induced thermotolerance in plants: the role of phytohormones

Golam Jalal Ahammed et al.

Summary: Rising atmospheric CO2 has significant impacts on plant response to heat stress by alleviating its deleterious effects. Despite evidence supporting the positive impact of elevated CO2 on thermotolerance, the precise molecular mechanisms underlying this phenomenon remain unclear. Further research is needed to unveil the intricate crosstalk between plant hormones in mediating high CO2-induced thermotolerance.
