Numerical and asymptotic analysis of the three-dimensional electrohydrodynamic interactions of drop pairs

Chiara Sorgentone et al.

Summary: This study investigates the electrohydrodynamic interactions between two identical drops in an applied electric field through numerical simulations and analytical theory. The results reveal a complex dynamics dependent on the conductivities and permittivities of the drops and suspending fluids, as well as the initial alignment of the drop pair with the electric field.

Electrohydrodynamics of lenticular drops and equatorial streaming

Brayden W. Wagoner et al.

Summary: Droplets under electric field can deform into singular shapes with sharp tips. The conductivity, viscosity, and dielectric properties of the droplet and exterior fluid affect the droplet's shape and stability. Through experiments and analysis of equatorial streaming and droplet deformation, different behaviors of droplets under various conductivity and viscosity conditions can be observed.

Low-Reynolds-number, biflagellated Quincke swimmers with multiple forms of motion

Endao Han et al.

Summary: In this study, a biflagellated sphere at low Reynolds number is propelled using uniform and static electric fields via Quincke rotation. The Quincke swimmers exhibit three different forms of motion, including a self-oscillatory state due to elastohydrodynamic-electrohydrodynamic interactions. Each form of motion follows a distinct trajectory in space, demonstrating a potential method to control the locomotion of artificial flagellated swimmers.

Diversity of non-equilibrium patterns and emergence of activity in confined electrohydrodynamically driven liquids

Geet Raju et al.

Summary: In a simple system of two liquids under planar confinement, a diverse collection of dissipative organized states emerges when driven by electrohydrodynamic shearing, including one-dimensional corrugation patterns, Quincke rolling filaments, filament networks, and two-dimensional bicontinuous fluidic lattices. The observed diversity of dissipative organized states points towards new avenues in non-equilibrium optical devices and various fields of research.
