Boundary layer transition and linear modal instabilities of hypersonic flow over a lifting body

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: This study simulated the boundary layer transition over a lifting body at Mach 6 and a unit Reynolds number of 1.0 x 10(7) m(-1). The dominant instabilities in different regions were uncovered through multi-dimensional linear stability analyses. A novel method was presented to reduce the computational cost. The results showed a fair agreement between numerical simulation and stability analyses, emphasizing the importance of considering non-parallel effects.

Stability analysis of streamwise vortices over a blunt inclined cone under a hypersonic flight condition

Ligeng Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the stability of leeward streamwise vortices over a hypersonic inclined blunt cone. The results show that the vortical structures in this case are different from previous studies. Two types of unstable modes, inner mode and outer mode, are identified, with the inner modes being unstable in a wider frequency range. Moreover, the inner modes are found to be able to radiate weak acoustics outside the vortices.

Hypersonic boundary layer transition on a concave wall induced by low-frequency blowing and suction

Xi Chen et al.

Summary: The hypersonic boundary layer transitions caused by unsteady blowing and suction are investigated in this study using linear stability analyses and direct numerical simulations. The results show that the blowing-suction frequency plays a crucial role in the formation of structures and the excitation of secondary instabilities, and the theoretical results agree well with the numerical simulations.

Inner structures of Gortler streaks

Ganglei Huang et al.

Summary: Various advanced techniques were used to investigate hypersonic boundary layer transition over a concave wall, revealing the distribution of low- and high-temperature streaks in the spanwise direction. Three-dimensional waves were clearly visualized and quantitatively measured inside the Girder streaks, playing an important role in boundary layer transition induced by Girder instability.
