Cosmic String Interpretation of NANOGrav Pulsar Timing Data

John Ellis et al.

Summary: Pulsar timing data was used to set upper limits on a stochastic gravitational wave background, but recent findings from the NANOGrav Collaboration suggest a stochastic common-spectrum process, potentially related to cosmic strings. The SGWB signal identified by NANOGrav falls within a specific range of string tension values and could be measured by various detectors beyond the capabilities of LIGO.

Has NANOGrav Found First Evidence for Cosmic Strings?

Simone Blasi et al.

Summary: The North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves has found strong evidence for a stochastic common-spectrum process affecting pulsar timing residuals, possibly emitted by a cosmic-string network. Future experiments will probe the entire viable parameter space of stable Nambu-Goto strings in relation to their tension and loop size.

On the Evidence for a Common-spectrum Process in the Search for the Nanohertz Gravitational-wave Background with the Parkes Pulsar Timing Array

Boris Goncharov et al.

Summary: A nanohertz-frequency stochastic gravitational-wave background can be potentially detected through the precise timing of millisecond pulsars, revealing a common-spectrum component. Recent data supports the presence of a common-spectrum process, but analysis may suffer from model misspecification. Extensions and combinations of datasets will improve the prospects of identifying spatial correlations necessary for claiming a detection of the gravitational-wave background.

Comparison of cosmic string and superstring models to NANOGrav 12.5-year results

Jose J. Blanco-Pillado et al.

Summary: This study compares the spectrum of stochastic gravitational wave background produced in various models of cosmic strings and discusses the theoretical uncertainties in computing such a background. Despite the uncertainties, cosmic strings are seen as a plausible explanation for the potential signal, with the consequences for cosmic string parameters depending on the specific model. Superstrings could also explain the signal, but only within a restricted parameter space where their network behavior is effectively the same as ordinary cosmic strings.

Exploring the Universe with dark light scalars

Bugeon Jo et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the cosmology of the dark sector involving (ultra)light scalars, investigating the origin of scalar mass and its interaction behavior, particularly with regard to the dark axion and dark glueball in the universe. The potential contributions of the dark axion and dark glueball in the formation of supermassive black holes at high redshifts are also explored.

Overcounting of interior excitations: a resolution to the bags of gold paradox in AdS

Joydeep Chakravarty

Summary: This work investigates how single-sided and eternal black holes can contain a vast number of semiclassical excitations in their interior, proposing a new solution to resolve the paradox in entropy. By describing the interior of black holes in Hilbert space, the resolution of the paradox arising from the orthogonal relationships between these excitations is provided.
