Design, realization, and characterization of a novel diamond detector prototype for FLASH radiotherapy dosimetry

Marco Marinelli et al.

Summary: The study investigates the use of a diamond detector for FLASH radiotherapy (RT), a technique using ultra-high dose rates and dose per pulse. The response linearity of the diamond prototypes is shown to be affected by the size of their active volume and series resistance. The results demonstrate the feasibility of using a diamond detector for FLASH-RT applications.

Ultra-high dose rate dosimetry: Challenges and opportunities for FLASH radiation therapy

Francesco Romano et al.

Summary: The clinical translation of FLASH radiotherapy poses challenges in the dosimetry and beam monitoring of ultra-high dose rate (UHDR) beams. This paper discusses the challenges of UHDR beams, the effects of time structure and dose on detector response, and the requirements for dosimeters in UHDR radiation environments. It provides a detailed status of current technology and future directions in dosimetry approaches and protocols.

Development of an ultra-thin parallel plate ionization chamber for dosimetry in FLASH radiotherapy

Faustino Gomez et al.

Summary: An ultra-thin parallel plate ionization chamber (UTIC) has been designed and developed to mitigate ion recombination effects in ultra-high dose per pulse irradiation. By reducing the electrode spacing, the dose rate operating range of the ionization chamber has been extended, making it suitable for measurement in ultra-high dose rate electron beams.

Characterization of the PTB ultra-high pulse dose rate reference electron beam

Alexandra Bourgouin et al.

Summary: This investigation focuses on the characterization and optimization of ultra-high pulse dose rate (UHPDR) electron beam at the PTB facility in Germany. Through experimental and simulation studies, two suitable setups for delivering reference UHPDR electron beams have been identified, and the reliability of the Monte Carlo model and the potential of the diamond detector prototype have been demonstrated.

Absorbed-dose-to-water measurement using alanine in ultra-high-pulse-dose-rate electron beams

Alexandra Bourgouin et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the dose response of PTB's alanine dosimeter system in UHPDR electron beams, with results showing a good precision of the system in the dose range of 0.15 Gy to 6.2 Gy per pulse. The Monte Carlo simulations were used to determine the beam quality conversion and correction factors needed for alanine dosimetry.
