Metrological Characterization of Non-Gaussian Entangled States of Superconducting Qubits

Kai Xu et al.

Summary: Multipartite entangled states are important resources for quantum information processing and quantum metrology. Non-Gaussian entangled states are predicted to achieve higher precision measurements than Gaussian states. In this study, a 19-qubit superconducting processor was used to characterize multiparticle entangled states generated during nonlinear dynamics. The linear Ramsey squeezing parameter (RSP) and nonlinear squeezing parameter (NLSP) were measured, and a large metrological gain over the standard quantum limit was observed, indicating a high level of multiparticle entanglement for quantum-enhanced phase sensitivity. The superconducting processor provides an ideal platform for engineering and benchmarking non-Gaussian entangled states.

Critical behavior of quantum Fisher information in finite-size open Dicke model

Meng Yu et al.

Summary: We explore the critical behavior of the steady state of the finite-size open Dicke model, considering the decay of the collective atomic spin states and the cavity field. By numerically calculating the quantum Fisher information (QFI), we characterize the super-radiant phase transition of the model. Our results show that the QFI of the cavity field state is more sensitive to atomic decay and is suppressed more severely in the presence of atomic decay, while the QFI of the atomic state is less affected by the photon loss of the cavity field.

Phonon-dressed states in an organic Mott insulator

Naoki Sono et al.

Summary: Floquet engineering is a method to tailor the band structure of a system by applying a time-varying, periodic driving force. This study explores the creation of phonon-dressed states in an organic Mott insulator, resulting in coherent harmonic generation. Using sub-cycle spectroscopy, the researchers observe optical radiation consisting of coherent oscillations produced by the coupling of intramolecular vibrations.

Engineering crystal structures with light

Ankit S. Disa et al.

Summary: The crystal structure of a material largely determines its electronic, optical, and mechanical properties. Recent exploration of quantum materials has focused on controlling crystal structures through materials synthesis, strain engineering, or heterostructuring. The emerging field of nonlinear phononics uses resonant laser pulses to drive vibrational modes in a crystal, allowing for rational design of crystal structure and symmetry with light to manipulate functional properties.

Colloquium: Nonthermal pathways to ultrafast control in quantum materials

Alberto de la Torre et al.

Summary: Recent progress in utilizing ultrafast light-matter interaction to control the macroscopic properties of quantum materials is reviewed, focusing on photoinduced phenomena that are nonthermal in nature. These phenomena involve transient modifications to the free energy landscape, redistribution of quasiparticle populations, modification of coupling strengths, resonant driving of the crystal lattice, and coherent dressing of a material's quantum states by the light field. Discussing recently discovered effects leveraging these mechanisms and presenting a road map for utilizing nonthermal pathways to create new functionalities.

Ultrafast dynamical Lifshitz transition

Samuel Beaulieu et al.

Summary: Fermi surface plays a crucial role in understanding metals and correlated many-body systems. While Lifshitz transitions have been demonstrated in a broad range of materials by equilibrium tuning, an experimental demonstration of a nonequilibrium dynamical route for ultrafast modification of Fermi surface topology is lacking. This study introduces a scheme for driving an ultrafast Lifshitz transition in a correlated type-II Weyl semimetal, shedding light on a previously unexplored ultrafast scheme for controlling Fermi surface topology.

Quantifying and Controlling Entanglement in the Quantum Magnet Cs2CoCl4

Pontus Laurell et al.

Summary: Researchers utilized inelastic neutron scattering to implement a model-independent measurement of entanglement based on three entanglement witnesses, successfully inferring the quantum state in the material. The study found quantum Fisher information to be a particularly robust method for experimental entanglement detection, while one and two-tangles require more careful analysis. These results lay the foundation for a general entanglement detection protocol for quantum spin systems.

Summary: The study introduces an experimentally friendly protocol for measuring the quantum Fisher information, applicable to various types of particles. Through simulating fermionic systems, a set of bounds connecting QFI with multipartite mode entanglement is established, enabling the detection of multipartite entanglement at higher temperatures. This work lays the foundation for experimentally accessing entanglement in quantum enhanced metrology.

Witnessing entanglement in quantum magnets using neutron scattering

A. Scheie et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates how quantum entanglement can be directly observed in a quasi-1D Heisenberg antiferromagnet; using three entanglement witnesses on inelastic neutron spectrum, quantum Fisher information proves to be the most robust experimentally; theoretical analysis shows that witnessable entanglement in higher spin Heisenberg chains gets suppressed at lower temperatures as the quantum number increases, with potential applications in higher dimensional quantum materials.
