Summary: Photonic time-crystals are spatially homogeneous media that exhibit periodic variations in their electromagnetic susceptibility, leading to temporal reflections and refractions of propagating waves. Free electrons in these crystals spontaneously emit radiation, with a significantly amplified emission process when associated with momentum-gap modes. Quantum interference between spontaneous emission and electron emission into the band modes suppresses the interdependent emission. Therefore, the study of free-electron physics in photonic time-crystals offers a platform to explore various exciting phenomena.

Summary: In this study, we investigate and implement the temporal analog in time disordered systems. We introduce randomly distributed temporal interfaces to a spatially homogeneous medium to create a temporal structure. The observed wave field is the result of interference between reflected and refracted waves on the interfaces. The growth of waves exponentially depends on the disorder level, similar to the evolution model in spatial cases. The relative position of the momentum gap in time modulated systems plays a crucial role in wave field evolution. By compensating for damping with tuned excitation, localized transient waves appear on the liquid surface, resulting from a specific history of multiple interferences.

Summary: We studied a class of temporal metamaterials characterized by time-varying dielectric permittivity waveforms with durations much smaller than the characteristic wave-dynamical timescale. We introduced a general and compact analytical formalism for modeling the interaction between a short-pulsed metamaterial and an electromagnetic wave packet. Our theory suggests a novel route for manipulating electromagnetic waves without relying on long, periodic temporal modulations.

Summary: Photonic time crystals (PTCs) with periodically modulated dielectric permittivity offer new possibilities for light manipulation. In this study, we theoretically investigate the emission of light from a radiation source inside a PTC and observe exponential amplification of radiation corresponding to the momentum bandgap. The radiation linewidth narrows over time, eventually becoming monochromatic in the middle of the bandgap, which leads to the proposal of a nonresonant tunable PTC laser. Furthermore, we find that the spontaneous decay rate of an atom embedded in a PTC vanishes at the band edge due to the low density of photonic states.

Summary: The introduction of novel nonlinear materials has sparked unprecedented interest in exploring the use of temporal inhomogeneities to achieve new forms of wave control, further advancing the development of engineered metamaterials. By identifying the crucial role of electromagnetic momentum conservation, a general analytical formalism has been developed to quantify time-reversal due to arbitrary profiles of temporal inhomogeneities, with applications demonstrated in the realization of broadband frequency converters and filters.

Summary: We theoretically demonstrate that a uniform static electric field distribution can be partially converted to radiation fields when a portion of the medium undergoes a temporal change of its permittivity. Closed analytical expressions are derived for the radiated electric and magnetic fields in a waveguide charged with a DC voltage source containing a dielectric block with a steplike temporal change. The exchange of energy between the electrostatic and electromagnetic fields is discussed, and the reconciliation between the seemingly contradictory temporal and spatial boundary conditions for the electric and magnetic fields at the interface of the time-varying dielectric block is analyzed and elucidated.

Summary: Temporal metamaterials are artificial materials with electromagnetic properties that change over time, allowing for the realization of non-homogeneous temporal media or stepwise transitions. By modeling wave propagation through a generalized temporal multilayer structure, higher-order transfer functions can be synthesized, enabling the design of novel electromagnetic and optical devices with tailored scattering responses. This approach leverages the temporal dimension instead of the spatial dimension typically used in optical and electromagnetic multilayered structures.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the propagation of electromagnetic waves in disordered photonic time crystals. We observed that in spatially homogeneous media with randomly changing refractive indices, the group velocity of a pulse decreases exponentially, eventually reaching a complete stop while the intensity experiences exponential growth. These effects are greatly influenced by the Floquet band structure of the photonic time crystal, with the highest sensitivity to disorder occurring in superluminal modes. The ensemble statistics were also analyzed, showing similarities to Anderson localization with single parameter scaling.

Summary: The study shows that waves propagating in a medium with randomly fluctuating wave velocity in time exhibit a statistical distribution of wave energy that is log-normal at long times, with average energy growing exponentially. At shorter times and weak disorder, the energy follows a negative exponential distribution, with an average value growing linearly with time. This universal statistical behavior bridges the fields of wave propagation in time-disordered and space-disordered media.
