Identification of b jets using QCD-inspired observables

Oleh Fedkevych et al.

Summary: We develop a novel approach to b tagging by using QCD-inspired jet substructure observables and modern machine-learning algorithms. Our results show that these observables can efficiently separate b jets from light ones. By combining track-based taggers with the ones based on QCD-inspired observables, the b-tagging accuracy can be improved.

Identification of charm jets at LHCb

R. Aaij et al.

Summary: The identification of charm jets is achieved at LHCb by utilizing the properties of reconstructed displaced vertices that are matched with jets. The efficiency of this method is verified by comparing the measured results to simulation with good agreement.

Study of Z Bosons Produced in Association with Charm in the Forward Region

R. Aaij et al.

Summary: This study investigates events containing a Z boson and a charm jet in the forward region of proton-proton collisions for the first time. The results indicate a significant enhancement in the forwardmost rapidity interval, suggesting the presence of a valencelike intrinsic-charm component in the proton wave function.

A fragmentation approach to jet flavor

Simone Caletti et al.

Summary: In quantum chromodynamics, the intuitive definition of partonic flavor is well-defined in the deep ultraviolet but requires an algorithm to define in the infrared. In order to bridge the gap between these two regimes, a novel and simple partonic jet flavor definition in the infrared is introduced. The evolution of the jet flavor from the ultraviolet to the infrared is described by a safe evolution equation, and quantitative agreement with simulations is demonstrated.

Practical jet flavour through NNLO

Simone Caletti et al.

Summary: An infrared and collinear (IRC) safe definition of jet flavour is essential for accurate predictions in quantum chromodynamics at colliders. The existing flavour definitions for jets typically modify the jet algorithm to be sensitive to partonic flavour at each clustering stage, which is not practical for real data. We propose a novel approach to jet flavour that can be applied to any parton clustering algorithm, using Soft Drop grooming and JADE algorithm. We prove the IRC safety of this definition at NNLO, making it compatible with the most precise fixed-order calculations for jets.

Measurements of WH and ZH production in the H→bb decay channel in pp collisions at 13Te with the ATLAS detector

M. Aaboud et al.

Summary: Measurements of the Standard Model Higgs boson decaying into a bb pair and produced in association with a W or Z boson decaying into leptons using data from proton-proton collisions between 2015 and 2018 by the ATLAS detector were presented. The associated production of a Higgs boson with W or Z boson was established with expected significances, and cross-sections were measured as a function of the gauge boson's transverse momentum. The measurements were consistent with Standard Model expectations, with varying total uncertainties depending on the gauge boson transverse momentum regions.

Measurement of the associated production of a Higgs boson decaying into b-quarks with a vector boson at high transverse momentum in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

M. Aaboud et al.

Summary: In this study, the associated production of a Higgs boson with a W or Z boson decaying into leptons and the Higgs boson decaying into a b quark pair was measured using the ATLAS detector. The measured signal strength was 0.72, corresponding to an observed significance of 2.1 standard deviations. Cross-sections of the associated production of a Higgs boson with a W or Z gauge boson decaying into leptons were also measured and interpreted as constraints on anomalous couplings in the framework of a Standard Model effective field theory.

Jet angularities in Z plus jet production at the LHC

Simone Caletti et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the phenomenological analysis of angularities measured on the highest transverse-momentum jet in LHC events with associate production of a Z boson and jets. Utilizing Monte Carlo parton shower simulations, the impact of next-to-leading order matching and merging procedures is quantitavely assessed. The study ultimately arrives at an all-order expression with next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy resummation, matched to the exact NLO result, providing predictions that account for various factors such as soft emissions and experimental cuts.

Summary: This study reports the results of searching for new phenomena in final states with b-jets and missing transverse momentum using data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. No significant excess of events beyond the Standard Model background expectation is observed, and limits on bottom squark masses have been extended compared to previous ATLAS searches.
