Entanglement Phase Transition Induced by the Non-Hermitian Skin Effect

Kohei Kawabata et al.

Summary: Recent years have witnessed significant advancements in open quantum systems described by non-Hermitian Hamiltonians. A notable characteristic of non-Hermitian topological systems is the skin effect, which leads to anomalous localization of numerous eigenstates due to nonreciprocal dissipation. This study explores the relevance of the skin effect to quantum entanglement and critical phenomena, revealing that it induces a nonequilibrium quantum phase transition in entanglement dynamics. The findings provide fundamental insights into phase transitions and critical phenomena in open quantum systems and offer a pathway to control entanglement growth.

Reconsidering the Ostrogradsky theorem: higher-derivatives Lagrangians, ghosts and degeneracy

Alexander Ganz et al.

Summary: The paper reviews the fate of the Ostrogradsky ghost in higher-order theories, starting from the instability caused by higher-derivatives Lagrangians in classical mechanics. It explores the possibility to evade the Ostrogradsky instability by using 'degenerate' Lagrangians, and explains that higher-derivatives Lagrangians do not necessarily lead to the propagation of an Ostrogradsky ghost. Additionally, quantum aspects and the subtleties of Ostrogradsky instabilities in higher order covariant theories are also studied.

Topological Field Theory of Non-Hermitian Systems

Kohei Kawabata et al.

Summary: This paper develops a field-theoretical description of intrinsic non-Hermitian topological phases, formulated solely in terms of spatial degrees of freedom. The theory provides a universal understanding of non-Hermitian topological phenomena and systematically predicts new physics like transport phenomena and skin effects induced by a perpendicular spatial texture in two dimensions. The non-Hermitian skin effect is shown to be a signature of an anomaly from the field-theoretical perspective.

TT-deformed fermionic theories revisited

Non-Hermitian Kibble-Zurek Mechanism with Tunable Complexity in Single-Photon Interferometry

Lei Xiao et al.

Summary: Recently, significant progress has been made in non-Hermitian descriptions of quantum matter, with researchers using experiments to reconstruct the non-Hermitian Kibble-Zurek mechanism and explore its distinct scaling behavior at exceptional points. By implementing parameter ramps across higher-order exceptional points and extending scaling properties to defect fluctuations, researchers were able to gain experimental insights into the universality class of exceptional points.
